Facts about Scooby

  • Breed: Pit Bull Terrier/Boxer Mix
  • Color: Brindle - With White
  • Age: Senior
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Scooby, an 11 & 1/2 year old pibble, came to our rescue as an owner surrender. His parents had split up and his "mom" no longer had time for him. It was clear when we met him that he had been neglected and was mostly kept outside. Now that we have him in our care and in a loving foster home he is finally learning that life can be really good, and he is doing great!! We have neutered Scooby and brought him up to date on all shots, gotten him a fuil medical workup and also microchipped him. And the great news is that he is very healthy, and we believe he has many years left to enjoy with a deserving family. Scooby is fully housebroken and easy to walk on a leash. He is good with dogs of all sizes, but he is a cat chaser. He is a medium sized boy at around 50lbs. His future home should have a back yard for him to explore and a person who likes to go for nice leisurely walks. We would love to find this sweet senior a great home ASAP. Please contact us to make Scooby yours!

About For Our Friends

About Our Rescue Group...

For Our Friends, Inc. is a nonprofit, no kill, rescue group based in Queens, NY. FOF keeps all dogs until a loving home is found for them. We are devoted to saving dogs/puppies in need. Many of our dogs have been abandoned and have literally been found by our volunteers in the streets of Queens and the Bronx. We have also rescued dogs due to be "put down" from the Center for Animal Care and Control (CACC). All of our dogs are given full medical exams including all of the necessary innoculations. All dogs are tested for heartworm. Any treatment for illness or injury is provided. In addition, all dogs over 4 months are spayed/neutered prior to being made available for adoption.

Our group has NO shelter of its own. All dogs are boarded at a veterinary hospital that has kennel facilities. We pay $14/day to board each animal that we have, as well as the fees for the medical care. We are supported solely through the tax-deductible donations that we receive. 100% of all donations go to the costs incurred in the medical care and boarding of our dogs.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a shelter of our own. We do a combination of foster homes and boarding and adoption events. Since we are an all volunteer group we show by appointment. Please contact 516.616.3076 or email fofadopt@nyc.rr.com to make an appointment to meet our dogs. All our dogs can be viewed at www.forourfriends.org

Our Adoption Process...

1. The first step in our adoption process is a telephone interview. A volunteer will call you to determine what type of dog will best fit your life style. Once an interest in one of our dogs is established we will ask for references. A veterinary reference is preferred.
2. The volunteer will make an appointment with the potential adopter based on a satisfactory reference to show the dogs. All family members must be present at this meeting. This includes the family’s current dog. Appointments can be made weekdays until 7 PM and weekends until 3PM.
3. If the potential adopter is a first time dog owner, we will, again, meet all family members and discuss at length housebreaking and training procedures. We will provide follow up phone calls and answer any questions the family may have.
4. Finally if the adopter/dog match is mutually agreeable, the new owner will sign an adoption agreement. The adoption agreement basically states that the dog/puppy will be treated in a humane way – given food, shelter and veterinary care. The pet will wear all necessary identification tags at all times AND if the relationship between dog and owner does not work out for ANY reason, For Our Friends will be notified. No For Our Friends Pet will ever be put in another shelter or transferred to any other owner without the approval of For Our Friends. We follow up all adoptions with phone calls to be sure all is going well and to answer any questions the adopter may have.
5. For Our Friends must ask a donation at the time of adoption. The fee is $200 for a dog that is spayed/neutered, heartworm tested and up to date on his shots. All adoption fees are refundable for up to 30 days if the pet is returned to us within that period. All fees are tax deductible.
