Meet our precious Sammy. He is a handsome, good natured, 19-pound Shih Tzu-mix, who is estimated to be 9 years old. He has a beautiful white, tan and grey coat. Sammy is alert with a calm demeanor, having big brown eyes that show love for his foster parents. He interacts well with people, older children and other dogs. Sammy wants to be near his family and will follow them from room and then plop himself down right next to them. He naps often, and sometimes lightly snores!
A wonderful companion, Sammy is happiest and most content if he can just be with you. While not a lapdog, he will sit nearby on a couch, floor or chair and he loves his belly rubs and lots of petting. Sammy seldom barks, likes to go on daily walks, and enjoys being outside. He especially likes to look out windows and is interested in watching the world go by. Sammy is a very dignified dog, is house broken, rides well in the car, and has wonderful house manners. He doesn’t ask for much, but he eats with gusto, loves his doggy-treats and chew-sticks. He doesn’t play with doggy toys, but will carry chewies from room to room, sometimes even taking them to bed. Sammy sleeps in his foster parents’ bedroom, in his own plushy bed. One of Sammy’s cutest traits is sitting upright and erect, on his butt, with back straight. We marvel at the length of time Sammy can maintain this pose, hoping to gain a treat or morsel from the table. He is so cute, which makes him hard to resist.
Sammy’s foster parents are looking for an adoptive home that wants a laid back, obedient, alert dog, and where he will not be alone for more than 5 or 6 hours. They would like his adoptive family to live within 30 miles of the Twin Cities. They also hope that his new family will attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue reunion held in September each year.
Sammy has Cushing's Syndrome (a hormonal disorder) which is successfully managed by a daily capsule costing about $59 per month, and will need this for the rest of his life. He is otherwise very healthy, neutered, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $120.00 plus $8.73 sales tax for a total of $128.73.
