My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Duchess, an approximately 4 year old pure bred Black Lab. Duchess was neglected and surrendered to police. Currently, she's getting some well deserved nutritious meals because she is very thin. Duchess is also recovering from a very bad flea infestation.
Duchess has been around children, other dogs and didn't seem interested in cats.So far it's been observed that Duchess knows how to climb stairs and ride in the car.

Duchess has started giving tail wags and greeting her foster mom after coming home from work. She's showing interest in dog toys and is exploring more of the backyard. She hasn't started playing with the other dogs in the foster home yet but Duke, her Pug/Black Lab foster brother, has barked at her to try and get her to play. Duchess did play bow and bark at an approx 1 yr old female German Shepherd at the Healthy Pet Event and did not seem intimidated by either a very large Bull Mastiff or a tiny Chihuahua at the event. She greeted men and women equally well and was fine with children from the very young to teenagers.

Duchess sleeps in the bed through the night and is uncrated with free reign of the house during the day. No inappropriate chewing or shredding has been observed but she does have 3 other dogs and the radio for company. She does not gulp down her food even though Duchess was clearly starved and she takes extra special treats gently. She likes Italian food, fried spring rolls, buffalo meat and Brie cheese. Duchess is currently on a grain-free food with olive oil to help her skin and fur heal.

Duchess had her first ever vanilla ice cream treat at Oberweis. The coldness freaked her out at first but she did like the taste and then ate it all. She's very calm during car rides and does not bark when you leave the car to go shopping or pay for gas. She just looks out the window and watches for you to come back. Duchess does not cringe when you raise your hand over her head but she does leave the room when there are raised voices. She also does not like fireworks and will come to her person for reassurance.

Duchess is up-to-date on her vaccinations and is spayed. Her adoption fee is $200.00. If you think that your family would be a good fit for Duchess, please contact Margrit at 630.820.1584..
