My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there! Thank-you for clicking on my profile - let me tell you a little bit about myself so that we can get to know each other better.

My name is Polo and I am a 9 year old Maltese who's owners sadly had to give me to a local animal shelter because they were no longer able to afford proper care for me. It was really sad - but - I am glad that they made sure that the shelter would take good care of me. The shelter contacted my foster mom and dad at NBS Animal Rescue and here I am!

I am a super sweet gentleman who is full of love says my foster mom. She says I have the softest fur in the whole wide world and that my little tail is adorable when I get excited and it starts wagging. My foster dad thinks I'm pretty great too - he lets me snuggle next to him at night - we're good pals! I get along well with most other dogs who are friendly and mellow. I get scared with dogs who are hyper or in your face or much bigger than me when they get excited - but a mellow canine friend like myself would be super!

As a senior most people think that I'm destined to be a bump on the couch - so not true my friends! Us distinguished gentlemen like myself enjoy a good romp with a toy, or a good game of chase with a friendly fellow dog every now and then. I also like going for short walks and exploring my foster home's fenced yard. Now don't get me wrong - I most definitely will not pass up a warm lap to snuggle and snooze with while you watch a movie or grade papers.

I had some rotten teeth that needed to be taken care of by the doggy doctor when I first came to NBS Animal Rescue - but I'm on the mend now! I don't have many teeth left so I'll need to eat soft food for the rest of my life. It was ouchy having surgery and although I'm still healing from having some of my teeth removed, I am already feeling much better and have a spunk in my step my foster mom says.

I am learning how to do my personal business outside and my foster dad says that I'm a quick learner! With gentle guidance, a routine to go outside frequently, and lots of positive praise and doggy treats I'm doing quite well!

I would love a fur-ever home with a family who was home often, who had a quiet and mellow home for me to relax in. Although I think kids are wonderful, my ideal home would be with kids at least 12 years of age as young kids tend to move fast, make loud noises, and scare me.

My friends at NBS Animal Rescue are helping me to find the perfect fur-ever home for my needs. I am looking for a home that has all of the following things or a family with a plan in place to help me with the things I need below. Not all of my friends here at NBS Animal Rescue need the same type of home, so if I might not be the perfect fit for your family please visit the pages of my friends and see if they might be a good fit for your family. If your home might be a perfect fit for me, please visit www.nbsar.org to fill out an online adoption application.

- Family gone no longer than 5 hours at a time per day.
- 100% fenced yard preferred or detailed plan of multiple daily walks listed on application.
- Kids 12+ years of age.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine (age appropriate), heartworm test (age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food.

Do you think I might be the perfect addition to your family and want to meet me?? Please:

1.) Visit www.nbsar.org to fill out an online adoption application and we will start processing your application right away! We do require that persons interested in meeting me apply online and be approved as an adopter first so please visit our website and submit your application today!

2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release information about your current and past pets veterinary history.

3.) Call your references and let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number as they will be speaking with a member of our team as a personal references.

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on it's vaccinations and heartworm preventative as well as spayed/neutered unless there is a documented medical reason on file with your veterinarian. Dogs must be current on Distemper DHPP combo vaccine and Rabies vaccine, cats must be current on Distemper and Rabies at the time of application. This also applies to any pets in your home within the past five years.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and will fill out an adoption application right away, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family. Would you please help me by sharing my picture and information on your Facebook page, or e-mail to your friends and family members? I'm a great pup and I really deserve a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
