My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.

We at PDR firmly believe in the importance of obedience training, regardless of breed or size of dog, and have a clause in our adoption contract requiring adopters to attend and complete a basic obedience course at a facility of their choosing. Only in certain circumstances will we waive this clause, so please be prepared to attend dog school should you wish to apply for a dog through our program.

For more information and adoption applications please consult our website at www.pounddog.ca.

My name is Ellie Mae and I'm a dainty Southern girl just waiting to meet my forever home!

I am a 10-month old whippet/foxhound mix and I currently weigh just under 30 pounds. I am a hound through and through! I love to follow my nose and run really, really fast!

I was found in the country and my owners didn't come for me. I have no idea why because I am a good girl who loves to be with her people!

It was clear to my foster mom that I hadn't lived in a home. I needed to learn everything! I am learning this housetraining business and not to jump up to greet people. I still need to be reminded not to jump. I am corrected and go right into a sit! See? I'm a good girl! Because I'm still learning not to jump up, I am not suited for a family with children under 10. I need to be with older children who can run and play ball with me!

I love, love, love going for walks! I get to smell everything and follow my nose! But I am learning that when I get my leash put on, I can't just run out the door! My foster mom makes me wait when the door is open and only go outside when she says, "ok!". I've picked up on that quickly but still need to be reminded. I am just so excited to go for a walk! My forever home will have to continue to work on my manners and take me to dog training. I've been to puppy classes and they were great! I will need to continue my training because I am still a puppy. There is so much to learn!

I've learned to walk really well on a leash! I love to smell and follow my nose. I don't pull much and when I do, I am corrected. I respond really well to training! On our walks, I have met some really nice dogs! I was a little shy when I first met dogs but I'm really coming out of my shell! We only greet nice dogs and stay away from the dogs that are growly. I've made some doggie friends and sometimes they come over and we play!

I love to show off how super fast I am when I run! I think I am the fastest dog in the WORLD! Well, at least the fastest dog my foster mom has ever watched run! That's why it's very important that I go to a home with a big fully fenced yard. I love to run in crazy circles and show off to my canine friends and human friends! Sometimes I bark as well. Okay, lots of times I bark! I am learning not to bark at everything that moves outside, like those pesky squirrels and chipmunks. That's another reason I need to go to a house rather than an apartment. Hounds can be vocal, and I'm a hound!

My foster mom says I'm "medium energy". I need two good walks a day then some play time running in the yard. Then I am very chill in the house and lie in my bed. We go for a walk in the morning and then a good long walk after dinner. I love walks. Not sure if I've mentioned that yet!

I also really, really like being around my people. I don't like being alone. I get scared and sad when I'm alone. When my foster mom goes to work, I am put in my crate. I have to be in my crate because I'm still a puppy and can't be trusted to be free in the house alone. I don't like my crate either. It will take time for me to get used to my crate and being alone. That's why I really need to go to a family who is home more than they are not home. My ideal family would be with someone who works from home! I would love that!

Oh, and while we're on the subject of my perfect family, I would really appreciate having another dog to be a companion and to play with me! And to keep me company when my family is out. I am very good with other dogs and like the security of having a confident friend beside me. I don't guard my food or my toys and share my dog bed too. My fosters think I should to go to a home with another dog to be happiest and I agree. I am also good with the cats in my foster home and don't bother them too much. I do love to smell them as they smell so good but they don't always like that. Sometimes I try and get them to play but they don't like that either.

Oh, I love toys. I love the rope kind that I can swing all around! I love the squeaky kind that are loud! I love to play fetch and love to play with my toys!

I am very good in the car. My tummy is still getting used to being in the car. Sometimes long car rides upset my tummy. My foster mom is taking me for short drives and is gradually increasing the time I'm in the car to help my tummy get used to it! I am so well behaved in the car. I sit in the back seat and look out the window. Sometimes the window magically goes down and I get to stick my head out and smell everything! It's so great!

If you are interested in adopting me, you need to have a lot of dog beds. I really, really like lying in a dog bed. I figured out really quickly what they are for - me! A dainty girl like me must sleep in luxury. I sleep right beside the human's bed at night in my own bed. When the humans watch tv, I lie in a dog bed right beside my humans. When the humans are eating, I lie in a dog bed away from the table but where I can still see them. I like to be right with my people!

So if you have a house with a big backyard and a fence and are home more than you're not, I would love to meet you! Especially if you have a dog for me to be friends with! I am a good girl who is still learning all of the rules so you must commit to continue with my training. I learn quickly!
