My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SAM is a 3 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 69 pounds. Sam's owner surrendered him to the shelter with no reason given. He was surrendered with another dog. Based on the flea bites, dirt, and condition of his coat, he was most likely living outside. Sam is very sweet and friendly. He is good with other dogs. Unknown with cats. There is no history of Sam living with children so he is approved for ages 10+.

Update: Sam has made such progress since moving to his foster home! He learned two new life skills this week. After a few embarrassing attempts, he has learned to operate a stuffed Kong, using his paws to hold it in place. He also has a new found interest in tennis balls and will amuse himself by bouncing them around the house and pouncing on them. Squeaky toys fully capture his attention and he will play with one for hours on end. Sam has worked some on his leash skills but still does best with an easy walk harness. He has spent the day at the office twice and done great each time, greeting everyone who passed by with an exposed belly ready for pets. If he didn't get enough pets, he just wrapped his front paws around the human's legs until they filled his quota. This guy is such a love bug. He really is friendly with every dog and person he meets and has a terrific attitude. The two resident labs enjoy having him around and so does everyone else.

Update: Sam is such a pleasure to have around the house! He has learned to love peanut butter Kongs, dog beds and plush toys. He will sit so pretty to get treats or praise. Sam likes chew toys and enjoys spending time destuffing any stuffed toys he can find, but he's willing to take his time to make the fun last. He is not an in-your-face kind of a guy but definitely enjoys the company of people and other dogs. At his recent vet visit he met about six dogs of different sizes and made friends with every one of them and with their humans. His house manners are excellent and he is the kind of dog who will fit in seamlessly once he finds his forever family. For a three year old, he is incredibly calm. If you like dogs who don't get on the furniture, then Sam is your guy. He is content to relax nearby on a comfy dog bed or on the floor. He walks best with an easy walk harness.

Update: Sam has completely relaxed in his foster home and now is a lover of being petted and getting ear scratches and everything else. He does not get on the furniture but loves his dog bed and hanging out there with a chew toy nearby. He did not enjoy his recent bath time but now his coat is so shiny that he looks and smells great. He is a very handsome boy. Sam would be a wonderful addition to any home as he is so gentle and relaxed

From the transporter: Sam is very friendly and rode well in the car.

Update: Sam arrived and is taking it slow in his new foster home, getting used to the whole indoor dog thing. He spent a good deal of time outside after he arrived. We left the door open and he came in and out of the back yard, stopping to sniff us on his trips inside and taking little treats very gently before heading out again. He capped off his evening by picking up one of the dog dishes and running zoomies with it out in the yard. He's super sweet but still shy of people. He is cautious around people and doesn't like too much petting right now, although he finally settled down on the floor with foster dad and received his pets very nicely. He and the resident labs are getting along famously and tomorrow we are going to see if he likes stuffed kongs. He was not a fan of peanut butter tonight so he will get yogurt and wet dog food in his kong tomorrow. He is a gorgeous dog with a big head and fluffy coat.
