Shanta's Story...
We would like you to meet our two newest cattery residents, Twisty Kittens Shanta and Fanta (also on this site)!
These 5-month old special needs siblings were living in a Los Angeles area back yard of an elderly couple who could no longer care for them. They were rescued by one of our rescue partners, Hope for Paws and transferred to Room 8 to find their permanent, loving, forever home.
Shanta (the female) and Fanta have a condition called radial hypoplasia (RH or "Twisty") which is associated with one particular form of polydactyly. Both of these kitties have extra digits on their back feet. RH also causes shortened and/or misshapen front legs. Fanta’s front legs bend forward at the “elbow” area and Shanta has one shortened front leg. But cats are very adaptable creatures as you will see in the attached video. Because of the inequality in the size of their legs, RH cats have peculiar ways of getting about. The hind legs become well muscled due to being the main form of locomotion and the tail may be used as a support when the cat sits upright. (Shanta and Fanta do great Meerkat impressions).
RH is not a disability to these two. They are so sweet and the minute you pet them they start to purr. A young girl was helping us when we were taking the video and she described their fur as being “as soft as my blankie”.
We are looking for the perfect home for them (they need to go together); one that will provide them with the love and care they deserve and understanding of their special condition. They have been altered, are up-to-date on their vaccinations, and are microchipped. They are ready to go!
If you have a place in your heart and your home for Shanta and Fanta, and are interested in meeting them, please contact us today!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Shanta, a Jurupa Valley Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Jurupa Valley, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Jurupa Valley.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Jurupa Valley already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Jurupa Valley breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Jurupa Valley paves the way for another one to be saved.
