My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOB April 19, 2016.

Pigeon is quite the character. She was named Pigeon because her purr sounds almost like a coo. How adorable is that? She's a very sweet kitten with some unique features. She has underdeveloped front legs and a tiny jaw, which makes her look very unique and incredibly adorable. She looks like a munchkin cat from the front, which is super cute. She walks on her tippy-toes, which gives her a unique stride. Her fur is really soft and fluffy, and she has a gorgeous mane of lighter coloured fur that tufts out around her head. Pigeon is quite a stunner and she knows it!

Pigeon loves being held and cuddled, she's a total lap cat. She's a great snuggler, and she warms up to new people quickly. Pigeon gets along famously with her foster family's dog and she purrs loudly whenever the dog comes up to her. She enjoys snuggling the dog and playing amicably with her. She's a naughty kitten at heart and sometimes playfully bats the dog's tail, which turns into a game between the two since the dog is well-socialized to cats and kittens. Pigeon has met other dogs and generally shows curiosity and appropriate social behaviour towards dogs.

Pigeon has met other cats and kittens and she tends to be quite stand-offish although she's definitely curious. She seem to be open to making friends with another cat, but she would need quite a gradual introduction. After staying with her foster family for a few weeks she's starting to warm up to other cats but she's still a bit nervous and can be defensive (but hasn't been aggressive). It's possible she may feel a little concerned around other cats because of her legs/feet and we don't know what her experience has been with other cats in her early life.

Pigeon was found outdoors. She could have been born outside or she might have gotten lost or even dumped. She's come a long way in terms of socialization and she's quite friendly although she sometimes startles easily. She's still nervous about being approached some sometimes hisses, but she'll approach humans on her own terms and solicit play and attention. Pigeon loves cuddling and being held and she likes being petted a certain way but can get over-stimulated and nippy with certain kinds of petting. For these reasons she would probably do best in a home with older children.

Pigeon has a congenital issue where she was born with underdeveloped front legs and feet. She looks like a munchkin cat from the front because her legs are so short! She doesn't have paw pads on her front feet and as a result she walks on her toes. She's missing a few toes on her front feet and her front claws are either missing or misshapen. She's a bit less mobile than other cats, but x-rays have confirmed that she's not in pain and her front legs are sound. Her back legs are totally normal.

Because she walks on her tippy-toes Pigeon would do best in a home with minimal stairs. One set of carpeted stairs would probably be manageable, but she would probably have trouble traversing multiple storeys or uncarpeted stairs. She should have a litter box available on each floor/multiple litter boxes throughout the house to make sure she doesn't have to travel too far to use the box (she uses the litter box perfectly, this is just a logistical consideration to make things easier for her and ensure continued success). Pigeon will need regular nail trims to keep her comfortable walking on her toes. Some of her front nails don't retract so this is very important. Her adopter will need to be comfortable committing to weekly nail trims. Pigeon is okay about having her nails trimmed but she could use some help to feel more relaxed about it. She loves being brushed, however, so her gorgeous long hair is no trouble to care for.

Pigeon also has an underdeveloped lower jaw. Her adult teeth are mostly in and the vet confirmed they're aligned and should fit into her mouth without any issues. Because of her smaller lower jaw she often appears to have a funny expression on her face. She also drools a little from the corners of her mouth, possibly because her jaw doesn't align and she often has her mouth open a little.

Her foster family shares: "Pigeon is such a lovely kitten! Her personality has been unfolding as we get to know her and we were so tempted to foster fail. She's so special and we have the feeling she's going to be a phenomenal cat, and a total character, when she fully comes into her own. Pigeon might be a little shy or withdrawn initially but anyone who gets the time to know her can tell that she's truly wonderful and can't get enough of her. Our friends find that spending time with Pigeon is addictive and we feel the same. We're going to miss her expert cuddles and her sassy glances. Please consider this once in a lifetime opportunity to bring this special kitty into your life.".
