Heidi's Story...
Are you looking to add some zest to your life? Look no further! Heidi is a 6 year old Australian Shepherd mix, approximately 35 pounds, who is full of goofy antics and loves playing with her person, toys, other dogs, everything! Heidi was neglected and so she had to be shaved (sometimes you need a fresh start), but she IS a long hair dog and will need proper care when her coat grows out. Her right ear will probably remain hairless, but that just adds to her character. She is currently in a foster home with other dogs and cats and does just fine. A home with a dog that enjoys having a companion would be great as she LOVES her doggy friends! She is hesitant around men at first, but once she gets to know them they can be friends. She is house trained and crate trained and can be left at home alone with no problem! Heidi likes to go on walks, sit on the couch and watch tv, and bring you stuffed animals to play tug.

We recommend and encourage you to complete an application at http://henricohumane.org/adopt/application-for-dogs/ before coming to our next adoption event. To find out if I will be attending our next adoption event, please email dogs@henricohumane.org.

Adoption events are every Saturday, excluding holidays, at the Petco located at 11331 W. Broad Street, Glen Allen, VA (next to Trader Joe’s) from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Heidi, a Richmond Australian Shepherd dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Shepherd for sale in Richmond, or seeking a Australian Shepherd dog from a breeder in Richmond.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Richmond already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Richmond breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Shepherd breeders who help with Australian Shepherd rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Richmond paves the way for another one to be saved.
