Dixie's Story...
AVAILABLE FOR RESCUE ONLY!!!

Dixie is an 18 month old spayed English Mastiff mix. She is an extremely fearful girl and needs an owner who has patience and understands behavior and training. Her future forever owner needs to be experienced with larger breeds and dogs that are fearful. Dixie did used to live with other dogs and cats so she may be able to be integrated into a home with other animals. Dixie does well with house-training and is also crate-trained. The kennel staff has worked very hard to gain Dixie's trust and she is slowly coming around. We are learning more about her every day. She knows how to sit and she does walk politely on a leash. Dixie needs a home without any small children. It would be best if there were only older children, probably more than 15 years old, in the home. Even though Dixie is scared and timid, she is not an aggressive dog but needs someone to help her work through her challenges. We are working hard to try and find a rescue to help place Dixie. If you have experience and are interested in Dixie, please contact brianne@michianahumanesociety.org.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Dixie, a Michigan City English Mastiff dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a English Mastiff for sale in Michigan City, or seeking a English Mastiff dog from a breeder in Michigan City.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Michigan City already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Michigan City breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even English Mastiff breeders who help with English Mastiff rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Michigan City paves the way for another one to be saved.
