We are required to list a breed mix for search results but since visual ID is almost impossible to do accurately, we and all other groups with mixed breed adoptables, are giving it our best guess. If we had the option, we would list all our adoptables as DOG/MIXED and help you learn about the specific pup/dog you may be interested in adopting. Every dog is an individual regardless of breed mix.
New Mexico Pets Alive currently completes adoptions via foster to adopt. The process includes an adoption form, home visit and meet and greet and 1 week foster period if our adoption team thinks the match is a great one for our adoptables. The foster period allows everyone to see if the pup/dog/cat may be the right fit for their family before we finalize the adoption. That removes pressure on potential adopters and allows us to be able to facilitate good matches with very few adoption returns. If it's not the right fit, we would prefer to learn that prior to adoption finalization so we can help them find the fur-friend that will be the right fit.
The first step would be for you to complete the NMPA foster to adopt form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VDTLL53 located online. Once we receive it, our team will review and get back to you to set up a home visit. It allows us to meet everyone in the family, see where the NMPA adoptables will be living, answer any questions they may have, etc. Thanks for your interest!
