My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey, it’s Huck here! I’m a little worried because I still don’t have what foster mom calls a “forever home”. I think I would like one of those. She says the right one will find me but I’m still worried. Maybe you can help them find me?

I think I’m a pretty good boy. Foster mom says I learn fast and boy do I sit well for my treats! If you have treats you can teach me just about anything and I think learning is fun! I’ve also learned that going to new places can be a lot of fun. I am really excited when we first get there though and it takes me a few minutes to remember my best manners. I love playing with other dogs. I used to be more afraid of big dogs but I’ve met quite a few of them and they played well too! I gotta say I do appreciate a polite introduction and a few minutes of conversation before we dive right into play. It’s the gentlemanly thing to do after all.

I love playing with toys and bones of all sizes and shapes. I’m even good at sharing them with my Squishy Puppy, my baby foster brother. He’s pretty rad. We play and snuggle up for naps all day. I’d love a home with another dog that will play with me. I think it would be OK if I were the only dog, then I’d get all the attention myself right? You would have to be sure to play with me lots though, I like tug and fetch and oh, walks and trips to the dog park too! After all, I’m an active and social kind of guy!

Foster mom says I’m also a “champion snuggler” and I like that – who doesn’t want to be champion after all! I like to climb on foster mom’s lap after a good play session or for a nap. I let her know when I need some cuddle time. I also sleep in bed with her snuggled right up. I find I get the best sleep if I can lay my head on her actually!

There are no human kids in my foster home but at the Meet & Greet they looked fun so I went and sat in some kids’ laps! I don’t really like cats though. I don’t know why I don’t, I just know when I see them it makes me feel kind of mad inside and I feel like I need to chase them away. I think it would be better for cats and me too if we didn’t share a home.

I’d love a fenced yard but if you don’t have one and we’ll go for daily walks that would be OK too. And don’t forget the dog park, I love it there! Foster mom says no invisible fences for me. I didn’t understand how a fence could be invisible but she said to trust her on this one.

Did I mention that i'm a Safe Hands celebrity! I even have my own t shirt and pawtographed calendar!! You wouldn’t know that with how humble I am.

If you are looking for an all-around fun kind of guy who loves to play, go places, learn things and don’t forget champion style snuggle sessions, I think I could be your guy! Can you help me find my “forever home”?

Huck is estimated to be 11.5 months and weighs 35 lbs. Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom and dad are!), we are just guessing on breed and size when grown.

All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative.

Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this dog please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.
