About Meli:
Meli had a tough start in life. She was very skittish and reserved when we first met her. It took us a while to gradually bond with her, and then guided her to interact with humans, other dogs and even cats. Finally, she let herself out thru the lead of leash and a super sweet and outgoing puppy who befriended her and taught her how good it felt to cuddle and show affection to humans.
Now she is sweet and loving; she adores being petted. She becomes very sociable; she’s comfortable around strangers and new environments. She walks in busy streets with confidence, and no longer has problem interacting with strangers. She is watchful though, will give short barks when strangers visiting our house, but will calm down and greet when she does not feel intimidated.
She enjoys the companion of dogs in her foster home a lot. Her favorite pastime is hanging out with dogs in doggie park and her daily walks. She’s good with the foster family’s cats too, but may chase after them like the way she plays with dogs. She is friendly with children, but is scared of young children under 5-y-o.

About Meli's rescue:
Meli was trapped in the cage set up by a TNR group when she was only 2-m-o; she has dermatitis and dehydrated. Meli was too young to be spayed, so she was sent to the vet for treatment. Staying in the hospital for 2 months or so, Meli has grown into a pretty young lady, with beautiful shiny coat. But being shy and timid, Meli did not get adopted.
Meli was transferred to a no-kill shelter and stayed for two months with hundreds of caged dogs, with no chance to interact with human. The rescuer did not want to give up on her and managed to find her a paid foster home. During her three months stay there, she did not get enough attention nor training, since the house was packed with fostered dogs.
Luckily, Meli’s current foster mom is willing to take her in and started to train her aside from loving care. She was named “Meli”, meaning a beautiful girl in Chinese!

Special needs:

Meli is a congenital CHD(Canine Hip Dysplasia) dog; her acetabulum is too shallow(almost straight) to hold femur. Luckily, her pseudo-joints (commonly referred to as a ‘false joint’) function well, and therefore did not require surgery. Meli’s mobility is not affected at all because she is pain-free. This lucky girl is so blessed!
The above diagnosis was given by a most prestigious veterinarian in the country, with X-ray film (of Nov.3rd,2016) attached. To manage her weight and maintain proper exercise is advisable. Please watch her videos 'Meli on the RUN!!', and you'll be amazed how nimble this young pup plays and runs!
