My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

GQ- Max!
If there were a GQ for dogs, Max would be on the cover sporting his outerwear, no doubt!

Max is a very beautiful, very sweet, about 1.5 year old, very tall, 70lbs shepherd mix, a classic mutt. He has such a sweet face; his best feature are his expressive eyes...and his fluffy, always wagging long tail. He is a very elegant dog...maybe there's a gazelle in his lineage! Handsome Max is neutered, healthy, heart worm negative, up to date on all shots. He doesn't shed much, he loves grooming and turns into a little lamb in the bath tub soaking up the suds and the attention!

Max was dumped and then found running beside a busy road in rural NC, but luckily picked up by a nice couple who quickly found a foster home for him instead of taking him to animal control. Now Max is looking for his furrever home! Max will be a great family dog, or a great companion for a single person, but he needs the one person who will lead and train him and make him a priority. The good thing is Max listens well because he is very in tune with his pet parent; he wants to learn and be a good boy! It may not always work, but he tries hard! He has learned to sit and stay and wait before going inside though that may need some further fine tuning! Because he is so connected to people he does well off leash. Once he has formed a bond and feels secure he will stay by your side. Also, his leash manners are good most of the time. They may need a little fine tuning too...mostly on his much-loved trails in the woods...

He is great with other dogs, loves to play and run as fast as he can with them. He is not an alpha; he's just a good 'team member'. Max is good with cats also, wishes he could play and chase them just the same, but he won't hurt them. He is perfect with kids of all ages, and any adult. Max is a fun active dog that needs regular exercise, definitely more than 2 ten minute walks a day. He would love a dog park membership so he can run freely along trails and swim'n splash in the lakes and ponds...He loves to ride in the car to go on a new adventure even if that is just to ride along running errands! Max is easy to please! He is a perfect travel companion and behaves well on a restaurant patio. Another favorite Max-hang-out-spot is the DogBar in uptown Charlotte!

Max doesn't mind 'practicing' crate time with a peanut butter Kong toy, a doggie pizza, or bully stick...He'll accept it for a little while, but since he is house broken and past his chewing year he may not need a crate for too much longer. Even a large crate is not all that comfortable for him, because he likes to sleep all stretched out...a 'pillow topped rectangle lounger' may suit him best! Max now 'camps out' at night with all his dog-buddies in foster mom's bedroom. Max loves his naps during the day and settles down well, but he does not like to be alone too long. No doubt, he would love doggie day care or a pet sitter spending some time with him during the week. But since he is so fun and so lovable you may miss him too much and end up taking him along everywhere!
