Meet Sir Charles!! We met him one day while we were temperament testing, and he was in an outside run getting some exercise. One of the guys from our program was with us helping to test that day, and he met Sir Charles. As we were making our list for the next day, he said he couldn't join us, but we would please test Sir Charles? And so, we did. And we fell in lo ve with this boy! Happy, resilient - just a fantastic boy. The shelter was so very, very full at the time. During the dog to dog intro, which is the last phase of testing, we have to put dogs back in and pull them out of their runs multiple times. Two times in a row he was attacked by one of his run mates upon being returned to his run, and both times he made it very, very clear that he does NOT want to fight. This boy is a lover, not a fighter, and that made us love him even more!!
Sir Charles was given this name because he resembles a strong Knight — he's confident, courageous, a social butterfly and possibly the sweetest bully you will ever meet. Sir Charles is a true gentleman, he is very attentive to his handlers and quite "healing" to them. Kareem, his handler in jail, says that Charles "just knows" that he is needed and is very affectionate and loving to the guys. They all agree that he would make an awesome "Therapy Dog", and they are confident that he will be loved by anyone who meets him.
Sir Charles is all bully breed, most likely a Staffordshire terrier mix. He is a short guy (please don't tell him that!), brawny and muscular. He's about 2 years old, and a solid 60 pounds. He loves absolutely EVERYONE he meets, and adores giving kisses. Not sure how you feel about bullies? We promise that if you come meet Sir Charles, you will be a convert for life!! We don't know how he is with cats (we can test him if you have one!), but he loves other dogs, all people, and would be fantastic with children.
Sir Charles is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all his shots. Canine CellMates dogs are trained in items similar to the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. They learn basic obedience and commands such as sit, down, stay, go to place, and leave it. They are also crate trained. If you are interested in adopting Sir Charles, please fill out an adoption application at www.caninecellmates.org. or email adopt@caninecellmates.org for more information.
