Rocky is a very special boy, here is his story:
Rocky is a gentle soul who is looking for that special person or family to connect with after having endured a terrible life prior to being dumped in animal control. It was determined by the shelter and veterinarians that he had been used as a bait dog and was clearly owned by a horrible man. He was found in April of 2016 with multiple bite wounds to his face and neck and was healed and recovered fast. Despite this cruelty, he is extremely docile, he LOVES other dogs of any kind even after having been attacked on purpose. He actually does best in a home with another dog or dogs. He was lso heart worm positive and fully treated and recovered from that as well as many other ailments of neglect, that was all fixed this past summer and he's a health boy now. He was very shy and scared at the shelter and even after coming to Maine but all invovled know this guy is a very sweet soul and he quickly learned he will never be hurt again and literally appreciates love like no other dog on this planet. He is very friendly to all he meets but would do best in a female home. He meets many men but after having been placed with a taller/older man in the family, he does not do that well and has bouts of panic, randomly, around him. If a man he knows well in holding something or digging or walking away, he gets a flashback and will nip their ankle then immediately retreat. He does not do this with strangers OR outside of the home. Rocky is not an aggressive dog by any means, there is just something that reminds him or his mistreatment that causes panic and he goes into fight or flight for a split second, he seems to have PTSD for lack of a better term. He is currently being fostered with many men around and is doing great, it's a busy household and with people coming and going and he enjoys hiking, riding in the car, going to Petco, etc. Rocky is the easiest dog and doesn't ask for much except belly rubs and some snacks. He cuddles with his dog friends. Rocky is otherwise absolutely perfect and we mean perfect! He knows some all basic commands; sit, wait, come and asks to go out when needed! He is a love bug and super duper calm, quiet and cuddly! He is such an amazing boy and is great off leash! He is super cute and has really pretty markings and is a perfect medium size of 44lbs. We think he's a Beagle/Staffie mix. Huey is about 3 years old and is extremely special to all of us involved in his rescue and rehabilitation. He has a human like soul who literally understands English and human moods and is such an easy keeper, he doesn't need to be crated and can be left home alone, he doesn't cause any trouble. He works everyday on his confidence and loves women so we are leaning toward a woman only home, plus he is super mellow dog companion. Rocky would love a home for the holidays and gets better every day, he even enjoys Reiki sessions and is an awesome co-pilot who never makes a peep and appreciates everything you do for him.
