My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HUNTER is a 10 year old neutered yellow male Lab who weighs 71 pounds. Hunter #7 finds himself in need of a new forever home through no fault of his own. Hunter is good with other dogs and previously lived with another dog, so he'll need a doggie friend in his new family. He is an older gentleman and needs a home or area in a home with limited steps as he has a weak back end. His evaluator said: "He is a very sweet and friendly dog! He did great during the dog test and just ignored the other dog. He can slip easily on smooth surfaces". Hunter was surrendered to the shelter when his owner went to jail. He is approved for kids 10+. More info soon!

Update: Hunter did not plan to end up at a shelter and separated from his long-time canine buddy, but that's the hand he was dealt. He knows that he's going to be dealt a better hand soon. This absolutely gorgeous and sweet yellow gentleman doesn't ask for much. He only wants a family to love and a new canine friend to hang out with. Other than that, a few short walks or a yard to explore would make him very happy. Please consider adopting Hunter so another needy senior out of luck and time can also be rescued and fostered in his spot.

Update: Hunter is settling in nicely in his new foster home. He does great with other dogs. He is a laid back and mellow senior gentleman. Hunter is very friendly and sweet. He enjoys cuddling with his foster mom on the couch and gives kisses. Hunter would do best in a home with limited steps as he has difficulty climbing up and down stairs because of a weak rear end, which is to be expected of a senior dog. Hunter is very food motivated.

Adopters must meet these requirements:
Setting: Rural, Suburban
Dwelling: Single Family Home
Fencing: No fence requirement at this time

This dog is from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.

This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. Lab Rescue LRCP rescues and places dogs in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and northeast North Carolina (30 miles east of I-95 and north of the Pamlico Sound) Adopters must travel to Maryland, Virginia or Washington DC with their family - human and canine - to meet the dog they want to adopt.

Lab Rescue LRCP has between 50 - 80 dogs available for adoption from foster homes across Maryland and Virginia and at monthly adoption events. The adoption event dates are listed at www.lab-rescue.org.

If you are interested in adopting, please visit www.lab-rescue.org and complete an adoption application. Within a few days of submitting an application you will hear from an Adoption Coordinator who will guide you through the adoption process.

An adoption fee is charged to cover the cost of veterinary care and a home visit is required.
