My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scarlett is fostered in Martinsburg, WV through United Yorkie Rescue. http://unitedyorkierescue.org Scarlett is a sweet little 12lb yorkie girl rescued at the beginning of December 2016 from a NY shelter. At 12lb.s she's a little overweight and will need someone who will not allow her weight to continue creeping up, instead working to safely get it down. Scarlett has been a nervous little girl that has had a hard time settling in. She was overweight and could barely move. She just seemed so unsettled. In the almost two months that she had been in her foster home, she has come so far. First, she had shed a few pounds allowing her to to have lots of energy and go down steps. She's learning to go up step too. After her vet visit, it seems Scarlett may be younger than first assumed. She may between 12 to 15. The energy level and agility supports this too. For weeks Scarlett would cry about everything. She cried to be held, cried to be put down immediately, paced, cried when her foster mom was not with her, she just seemed to be lost. It seems Scarlett came from a very loving home that she abruptly lost through a death. Scarlett may be mourning as well a being confused by her new situation.
Scarlett was shy her first week after she came to foster home, but always very affectionate. She gets along with other small dogs and while a little shy seems to love people and crave snuggles and attention too. Scarlett was on the receiving end of the worst haircut by a shelter, ever! They cut all of her face hair off to treat an eye infection. So glad her eye is healed and her hair will grow back! Scarlett seems unsure of steps, maybe she didn't have any in her home before so is not used to them, so she's slowly learning what they're about. Scarlett appears to be house trained, but has recently been learning pee pad training, a result of the bad weather we've been having. Scarlet bonded with her foster brother and sister immediately, another dog of the same size, and older children would be good options for her, smaller children or big dogs probably not due to her smaller size and age. Scarlett's such a sweet, good little girl, she'll make a great companion. Are you the final stop, the lap to lay her head, the home she wants to call hers always? The nervousness changes to relaxation and the kisses are nonstop. She is trying so hard to adjust and her efforts are really showing. Scarlett will be taking some time to settle in. Her forever home will have to be willing to help her adjust once again but with this girl, the effort is worth it.
