My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our latest special needs, just too precious not to take into rescue senior, is adorable Harvey. We seem to always find that one little dog whom everyone has given up on and who is just so sweet and sad, resigned to a life that is not very good.

Tiny 11 pound, 10 year old Rat Terrier or Chihuahua Harvey spent his entire life outside by himself. Recently, a feral cat was keeping him company, snuggling with him in his bare bones dog house, both little creatures just trying to keep warm. (Yes, we brought the cat into rescue also.) A kind person saw this and now Harvey is with us, warm, loved and comfortable. He was covered in fleas and is now clean and totally flea free for once in his life, what a relief!

He is a doll baby of a pup, so gentle and quiet. He is very sweet and just goes along with whatever you need him to do. He really likes being loved for the first time ever and likes to be held and carried around. Just being touched and stroked means so much to him.

That is a good thing since this cutie is very much a special needs fellow, looking for just the right tender hearted person who feels that a senior who had 10 years of a rotten, lonely life certain deserves the best that a loving home can give him.

He seems to have some neurological damage and he holds his front legs stiffly much of the time and falls over like those cute fainting goats when you put him down. He just plops over on his side, legs stiff and looks serenely up at you. He does not seem to be in any pain.

It does seem that he can become more mobile when he is placed on a grassy area (we carry him from the kennel to the play yard). He cannot walk on hard surfaces yet since his feet may drag and get scraped.

Darling Harvey also has a large lump on his upper inner thigh/groin area which is probably testicular cancer since he was never neutered (neuter your boys, folks!!!)

Harvey is a loving little guy who appreciates everything we do for him. He loves treats and seems to like everyone here. He is totally peacefully with all the other little dogs and the cats here.

We will keep you updated as we find out more about Harveys physical concerns, but we can assure you that he has a wonderful personality and, even if no one comes forward to give this very deserving senior a new home, he will spend the rest of his life (long or short, we have no idea yet) in complete comfort surrounded by loving people and companionship. If you cannot provide that for him, we will, but we truly hope he can experience, for the first time, what it is to be a beloved pet in a home setting with lots of snuggle time.
