My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there! Thank-you for clicking on my profile, I’d love to meet you. Let me tell you a little bit about adopting me.

My name is Doug and I am a 3 year old neutered male Maltese who was found as a stray and ended up in a local shelter. The nice shelter workers contacted my new friends at NBS Animal Rescue and now I'm staying with a really nice foster family who is taking great care of me and helping me to find my fur-ever home.

I am a tiny fella at 6 whopping pounds but make no mistake, I have a big personality and love to go for walks in the neighborhood when it's not super cold out. I had to have all of my fur shaved off because it was so matted it was hurting me - don't worry - it will grow back, my foster mom says it's soft like silk!

Most young dogs my age like to romp and play and chase squirrels and tear apart toys - that's all good and such, but it's not really my favorite thing to do. I would much rather go for a long walk with someone I trust, explore a fenced yard for a bit, and then snuggle on my person's lap while they gently pet my fur. Don't get me wrong, I can prance around and play a bit from time to time, but I'd much rather follow you around the house and spend time with people I love.

I am currently living with two other canine friends and I get along pretty well with them. I'm not a big fan of playing, which is great, because my canine friends are like me too - we like to snuggle on our foster moms lap and go for walks, and protect the house from the scary mailman who comes by everyday. I would do best in a house and not in a apartment or condo. I love my people a lot and if I'm honest with you I can get a little jealous if I have to share my person with another dog while I'm on their lap. My foster dad says I have to be a nice boy and share. I'm learning and I do listen well, I promise! I am doing really well with doing my personal business outside too! I'm trustworthy outside of a crate when you are at work as I really don't like being in a crate. I would prefer a home without small children as I can get nervous in new situations and around loud noises/quick movements and a family who was home often to spend time with me.

My friends at NBS Animal Rescue are helping me to find the perfect fur-ever home. All of the dogs in our rescue are have different personalities and needs within an adoptive home. Not all of my friends here at NBS Animal Rescue have the same requirements, so if I’m not be the perfect fit for your family- be sure to check out my other doggy friends too! For me?

These are the things I fur-sure need in my fur-ever home!
- Family who is gone no longer than 6 hour periods.
- Children must be 10 yrs or older.
- Other dogs in the home must be friendly, gentle, and low energy.

If you think I might be the perfect addition to your family please follow these steps:

1.) Visit www.nbsar.org to fill out my adoption application. As an approved adopter, my rescue friends can set up a home visit so I can meet you. Our rescue is 100% run by volunteers, to help your application be processed as quickly as possible, please make sure to….

2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release information about your current and past pet’s veterinary history.

3.) Call your references too! Let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number, and a rescue team member will need to talk to them on the phone as a reference.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine (age appropriate), heartworm test (age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. If you’d like to meet me, please apply online and to become an approved adopter!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative , spayed/neutered (unless a documented medical reason is on file with your veterinarian). Dogs must be current on Distemper DHPP combo vaccine and Rabies vaccine, cats must be current on Distemper and Rabies at the time of application. This also applies to any pets in your home within the past five years.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and are ready to apply, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family just yet. However, would you please help by sharing my picture on Facebook, twitter or by email? I'm a great pup and need a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
