My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rio was rescued around the time of the summer Rio Olympics and struggling with many feats of her own. She lived outside in a residential neighborhood for a while. In the spring, she had had a litter of kittens. The kittens were rescued by a shelter but they wouldn’t take Rio because she wasn’t a kitten. Unfortunately, a member of the neighborhood starting catching cats in the area and killing them. Thankfully we were able to rescue Rio before this could happen to her.

Rio is now residing in a foster home where she has learned the ropes of living indoors. She was scared and nervous at first but has now made herself at home. Rio is shy around people she doesn’t know but very loving, affectionate, and out-going with those she is comfortable with. She also loves to play with all kinds of toys! She especially enjoys balls with bells, mice, and strings.

We’re unsure of Rio’s exact age. The vet thinks she is on the young side. She is most likely a young adult. She has a beautiful black coat with a white patch under her neck and scattered white hair elsewhere.

Unfortunately Rio isn’t too fond of the other cats in her foster home. She hasn’t warmed up to them and frequently hisses at them or chases them if they come too close. However, if they don’t come into her “personal space”, Rio doesn’t seem to mind them and lets them be. For the time being, we recommend a home without other cats. Rio has not been around dogs or small children since coming into foster care. However, based on her shyness around newcomers and interaction with cats, it may be best to be in a home without small kids and dogs.

Rio is hoping for a loving, peaceful home that will give her the patience to allow her to shine. We think you’ll find she’s worth it!

This kitty has had her initial vaccinations, de-worming, flea preventative, tested negative for FeLV/FIV, and been micro-chipped and altered (or will be micro-chipped and altered prior to adoption).

Adoption fee is 1/2 off for the second kitty adopted at same time. Adoption application, phone interview, home visit, and adoption fee required (+ PA Sales tax).

If you are interested in adopting a kitty(s), we ask that you complete an on-line adoption application to get the process started. To apply, simply go to www.furryfriendsnetwork.com / ADOPT tab / CAT Adoption Application. You will receive a welcome email once your application has been assigned to a volunteer processor (this should be within 72 hours of submitting an application). If you do not receive such an email, contact catapplication@furryfriendsnetwork.com. Once your application has been processed (this can take approx. 10-14 days), we will arrange contact with the foster to schedule a time to meet kitties you might be interested in. We are an all volunteer organization and appreciate your patience during this process.
