My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!

Buddy is a cute five year old male Shih Tzu mix. He is tiny, weighing between 6 and 7 pounds. He came to the rescue as a very fearful, unsocialized dog, but after only three weeks in foster care, he learned so much! At Christmas time, he met many new people and was fine being held by some of them. When being held, he will gently lick the person’s face! He is still afraid of strangers, and does not like to be rushed, but he will ask to be picked up by his foster parents, and enjoys sitting in a lap with the other dogs and one cat. He loves to go outside with his foster sibling dogs, and will sometimes pee when he is out; otherwise, he pees on paper in the kitchen. Due to the cold weather, he isn’t leash trained yet and hasn’t been able to go on many walks.

Buddy has a calm, quiet manner, and barks very infrequently. He knows his name, but needs help in learning basic commands. He learns quickly and once he becomes accustomed to his household’s routine, he will become more confident and outgoing. His adopters must understand how to deal with a fearful dog and be willing to help Buddy learn new experiences, overcome some of his fearfulness, and enjoy his new life. He would do best in a calm, quiet home with adults; no children under the age of 12 please. Because he enjoys the company of other small dogs and gains confidence from them, he would probably like another small companion as well.

Buddy is healthy, neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm/flea and tick preventative. His adoption fee is $270.00 plus $19.64 sales tax. His foster parents would like his adopters to live within a reasonable driving distance of the Twin Cities and request that they try to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September every year.

To meet Buddy, please complete an adoption application. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale on the first Saturday of each month.
