MEET DEDRIC
DEDRIC is a sweet little 7.5 month old black and tan dapple Doxie puppy looking for love and security. Recently rescued from a scary situation, he is currently living with a loving foster family and learning what it takes to become a successful family pet. He also understands and responds to Spanish.
Dedric will do best in a loving, patient family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds and able to spend time training him in all the things a puppy needs to learn to achieve his full potential. At the moment, this little fella is working through his recent past. Dedric isn't a fan of stairs and will cry at the bottom of them. He is starting to learn how to go outside. He isn't a fan of cats either...he barks at them. Probably most important at the moment is that he Is afraid of being picked up, tries to avoid hands. When upset, he does calm down in his crate. Dedric is scheduled to be neutered on January 16th.
Like all Dachshunds, Dedric is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, DEDRIC needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
