My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Apple Jack!
I was a pretty, happy, playful kitten with a wonderful family. I had brothers and sisters and we romped our way through the summer under the watchful eye of our mom.
We had hundreds of toys: pebbles rolled and leaves blew and if all else failed, we chased our own tails or chewed on each other's tails.
What could go wrong in such a Wonderful world??
Gradually my siblings wandered away to find their own lives and mom told me she couldn't support me anymore.
That's the way things work in the kitty world. Kitties must make their own way at a young age. So I set off to find my place in the world. It was a scary thing for a little kitten, but I felt confident I would find a safe place where I could love a human and be loved in return.
I wandered the neighborhood asking at doors and purring my requests to any human I met. I have very little memory of what happened to me. I recall a loud terrifying noise and indescribable pain in my legs. I think I lost consciousness. The next thing I remember is awakening to the pain in my back legs. I tried to stand and run to escape the pain but couldn't make my back legs work. I've never been so scared!
I lay there, panting, trying to decide what to do. Humans had always treated me well. They were my only hope. I dragged myself, pulling my body with my front legs from yard to yard. I cried loudly, hoping to be heard.
At last my cries were answered. A human voice spoke soothingly and gentle hands lifted me into a box with a soft blanket.

"I'm so sorry", she said," but I must take you to a place where they can try to help you and end your suffering. You are hurt very badly".

I had no idea what her words meant, but her sadness frightened me.
The place she took me to was even more terrifying. I lay in a cage and listened to animals around me crying and pleading for help. They told me I had no chance to survive. Being so badly injured, no human would want me. So I lay there and waited for the end.
But kind voices and hands carried me from my cage. A voice said "You are safe. You have been rescued and you will get well and find a home where you will be loved forever"!
The kitties in the cages around me cheered loudly and I licked the fingers stroking my fur. I had never been so happy!
I have been attended carefully and watched as I healed. I can now walk and run and take care of myself. I am now ready to meet my forever human family.
You will never meet a more appreciative kitty!
Apple Jack came to us via the city shelter with 2 fractured hind legs. She has healed and the vet has given her the okay to be adopted. Her gait will always be off but she is perfect in every other way! E-mail us at avertingcatastrophe@gmail.com
