My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BROWNIE is a 3 year old spayed chocolate female Lab who weighs 49 pounds. Brownie is a great dog, friendly and very lovable. She likes to be with you to get petted, if she had her way she would be a Laplab but is too big. Brownie likes to retrieve. She is enjoying living inside but still likes to go out and explore the yard and play She would like a to have a family that is active and can give her love, attention, training and exercise so she will thrive. Good with other dogs. Knows sit and come, working on other commands. Pulls some on lead better with an Easy Walk Harness. Crate trained was house trained as a puppy and is keeping her room clean at the kennel. Brownies story from the shelter manger - She was surrendered to the shelter because the owner could no longer care for her because of age and health. She was an inside dog as a puppy, since then she has been an outside dog. She was brought inside in bad weather. She is very sweet and affectionate. She is approved for kids 10+. More info soon!

Update: Everything about Brownie is wonderful. She is house trained, doesn't countersurf and doesn't need to be crated. Brownie can have full run of the house while you are out. She get along fine with other dogs. Brownie is definitely a velcro dog. Yesterday, she actually chased a tennis ball with the resident lab. She is a people dog and loves when visitors come to see her. She just loves to be petted and she greets everyone, not by jumping on them, just getting close to them with her tail wagging. She is very calm. Brownie doesn't seem to know how to play with toys, but loves her marrow bones.

Update: Brownie lost her sister and is learning to live without her. She has come a long way since she has been with me and as gone from being a super velcro dog to one who has started going off on her own. Brownie is definitely a people dog, she loves everybody who comes to visit. After she meets them she will just sit and let them pet her. She is so gentle. She is a good car rider and completely house trained. Has the run of the house when we go out and takes treats gently. She found the toy box and took all the marrow bones out to stash them for herself. Brownie has lost her appetite after her loss and we are working on getting that back. Brownie is a beautiful dog who would love to have a family with another dog and a fenced yard.

This dog is from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.

This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP.
