My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there! Thank-you for clicking on my profile, I’d love to meet you. Let me tell you a little bit about adopting me.

My name is Ashley and I am a 3 year old female Pomeranian who's Christmas miracle wish came true when the kind people at NBS Animal Rescue took me into their arms and helped me get the medical care I so desperately needed. Somehow I found myself wandering scared and alone on the streets with a broken leg. It was so painful...a nice lady found me and took me into her home while she tried to find my family. Unfortunately we weren't able to find my family so the nice woman contacted NBS Animal Rescue to help me get the medical care I desperately needed. I was in so much pain that I actually started to try to remove my leg myself. :-(

My super nice foster dad took me right to the doggy hospital where the doggy doctor got me some medicine to take away the pain and I had emergency surgery the very next day. Sadly due to the extent of my injuries they had to amputate my front leg. I know what you're thinking...how does a dog with 3 legs get around normally? Just ask my foster mom - she say's it's been harder making sure I rest and don't move around too much while my incision heals than it is for me to get around on three legs! I can walk, run, sit pretty on my hind legs and give you the cutest puppy dog eyes in the whole world to pick me up, I can play, snuggle on your lap, and I give really great puppy kisses! So you see, just because I am a little bit different than your average dog, I'm doing really well at adapting to my new normal and I'm happy to be pain free!

I am working on learning how to do my personal business outside - I am pee pad trained for sure though. Which is good because for a 6 lb tiny lady like myself sometimes these Michigan winters dump snow that is taller than I am! I get along well with other gentle, mellow, and low energy dogs who give me space to acclimate and get used to my surroundings before getting in my face. I do well with meeting new people although I can be a bit shy at first so slow movements and gentle soft voice help me to be more comfortable

My ideal home would be one with a family who is home often and can give me lots of TLC. I would do well in a home with or without a fenced yard as I enjoy a few short walks each day on a leash with my foster parents. I would not be a good candidate for an invisible fence. Because I can be a bit nervous around loud noises and fast movement I would like a home where any kids in the house are over the age of 10 and have experience with small dogs like me.

My friends at NBS Animal Rescue are helping me to find the perfect fur-ever home. All of the dogs in our rescue are have different personalities and needs within an adoptive home. Not all of my friends here at NBS Animal Rescue have the same requirements, so if I’m not be the perfect fit for your family- be sure to check out my other doggy friends too! For me?

These are the things I fur-sure need in my fur-ever home!
- Family who is gone no longer than 5 hour periods.as I have a small bladder.
- Children must be 10 yrs or older and have experience with small dogs.
- Any current dogs in the home must be gentle, low energy, and mellow.

If you think I might be the perfect addition to your family please follow these steps:

1.) Visit www.nbsar.org to fill out my adoption application. As an approved adopter, my rescue friends can set up a home visit so I can meet you. Our rescue is 100% run by volunteers, to help your application be processed as quickly as possible, please make sure to….

2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release information about your current and past pet’s veterinary history.

3.) Call your references too! Let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number, and a rescue team member will need to talk to them on the phone as a reference.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine (age appropriate), heartworm test (age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. If you’d like to meet me, please apply online and to become an approved adopter!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative , spayed/neutered (unless a documented medical reason is on file with your veterinarian). Dogs must be current on Distemper DHPP combo vaccine and Rabies vaccine, cats must be current on Distemper and Rabies at the time of application. This also applies to any pets in your home within the past five years.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and are ready to apply, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family just yet. However, would you please help by sharing my picture on Facebook, twitter or by email? I'm a great pup and need a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
