Here's what the humans have to say about me:
he first step of the adoption process is completing an application. Please visit http://southernstylegreatdanerescue.org/application/ for an online application or email us at southernstylegdr@gmail.com and request a PDF form to complete. Note: We will not answer any questions about the Dane until an application is completed and returned.
Ridge is the perfect example as to why Great Danes are called the Gentle Giants. This guy loves to snuggle up any chance he gets. If you let this guy sneak up under some covers with you, he will forever be your best friend. He has a hard time understanding that you can’t cuddle at every moment, and will keep rubbing and pushing you until you snuggle up with him. He has no idea he is a big guy, and will often attempt to sit on your lap.
Ridge is a big fan of dog beds, and is most comfortable laying on one in his Kennel (or dog apartment, really), whenever you leave the house. He is not a destructive creature at all, and does okay being left out when you leave the house. However, he does get a little anxious and will cry if you are gone and he is left to rome. If you put him in his kennel with a bone or Kong, he is completely content until you get home. Ridge is not a guy who gets excited about squeaky and fluffy dog toys. However, if you give him a Kong filled with peanut butter, he smiles at you (and occasionally turns on his doggie hydraulics when you pull the peanut butter out).
He does great around both dogs and cats of all sizes, and is very patient with other animals who are a lot more playful then him. He is generally very calm and gentle, and responds well to children. He is a big guy though, so he does sometimes paw at you for attention, and it can be a little rough for extremely small kids. He loves to go for walks and explore the park. He pulls a little on the leash when you first put it on, simply because he’s excited to go on an adventure. Once you get walking, however, he does very well on the leash and listens when you tell him to stop or slow down.
