Bernard's Story...
Adoption fee on this dog is $300.

Bernard is a large, 2 year old, white male German Shepherd. He was an unclaimed stray in the Modesto area, so nothing is known of his background.

Given his large size and floppy ears he may have a touch of another breed, maybe Great Pyrenees? He is a calm boy that gets along well with other dogs. He must have previously been in a home with cats, as he knows all about them and their claws and shies away from them. He is housebroken. He is fearful in new situations and looks to his person for confidence.

He will do well in a home with another dog for company.

This dog is a Level 2. Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires. Go to our GCGSR Dogs page for an explanation of the Dog Rating Levels.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bernard, a Modesto German Shepherd Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog for sale in Modesto, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog dog from a breeder in Modesto.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Modesto already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Modesto breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Modesto paves the way for another one to be saved.
