My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Who could resist this cutie-pie? He came to us before Christmas and is ready for a home.

Albert is a senior dog, born in April 2004, but still has a heart full of love to give.

Albert came to us underweight and with behaviour problems (everything that would fit in his mouth went in his mouth!) so his foster family is working on that, and he continues to improve. Albert spent almost his entire life out in a backyard, but has adjusted well (& loves!) house life. Due to his past, Albert is working on his leash training, but is very food motivated so is learning really quickly - also, he bonds to his people very quickly!

Still, his biggest issue, without a doubt, is his intense focus on food. He's always checking for treats and follows right on your heels at all times, sometimes jumping at your hands if he thinks there might be a treat. His fosters continually show their empty hands so that he can hopefully back off a little. Because of his intense food drive, we don’t often use it for training, but it sure is helpful to get him in his crate.

Update: Albert's jumping has been put to a halt, as this smart boy has learned that the best way to human affection (& treats!) is to sit and wait patiently :) Albert learns his boundaries well, and has even learned not to go in the kitchen. Albert also gently takes treats from his people when offered, but has learned to leave you alone if the food isn't his.

Happy to say that, Albert's much better in a house now than he was when he first arrived: a little calmer, quieter and has a great, sweet personality to his core.

Albert’s prey drive is very high so – no cats, or little dogs. Also due to his food drive, he is not recommended for a house with small children.
