My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Payne. I'm a lovely domestic short hair female tuxedo.

Payne was adopted from PPAH eight years ago. She is now being returned to us with her long-time friend and roommate Sarai. They have lived together for eight years, but have now been in two of our foster homes and do not exhibit any behavior that indicates that they are bonded. In light of this, Sarai and her friend Payne can be adopted together or separately. They are both in our adoption center at PetCo on Halsted in Chicago.

Payne and Sarai are sweet and love attention. They rub on legs and are classic bathroom attention seekers. If you don’t want to be petting both of these girls while you’re using the bathroom, make sure the door is shut tight when you go in. If you don’t, they will flank you legs simultaneously asking for pets until you get up and leave. In general, they love to sit on laps but don’t love to be picked up and carried around.
It took Payne a couple of weeks to warm up in her previous foster home. But when she became comfortable, the minute she would hear her foster mom coming up the stairs to her room, Payne jumped to attention for love. She is a very chill cat - loves treats, and is not a picky eater. She also likes to be brushed and needs daily brushing to prevent mats and to cut down on hairballs.

Payne tolerated the family dog (mini-dachshund) but didn’t really like her. So we think she would be fine in a home with a cat friendly/savvy dog who doesn’t care that cats are around.

Payne tends to be a night time explorer. Her former foster mom would wake up to find closet doors open in the morning. One morning the lid on the butter dish was flipped off and half a stick of butter was eaten. Payne is suspected of pulling down towels from the towel racks. We think this mischievousness makes her all the more lovable.

Payne did not sleep with her original foster mom since the family dog had a solid claim on that space. But we’re sure that she would be a nighttime snuggler if she didn’t have to compete with a pup.

Approved applicants can be scheduled for a meet n greet in the foster's homes.
