My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

GWEN is a 6 year old spayed black female Lab who weighs 37 pounds. Gwen is an owner surrender to a local rescue due to her owner moving. Don't let her age fool you -- she acts like a 2 year old! Gwen is a high energy kind of gal and loves to play. She's a "pocket-sized" lab that would fit into an active family's lifestyle perfectly. Gwen is very sociable with other dogs. Her owner had her at a boarding kennel several times and Gwen got along well with the other dogs. She is crate and house trained. From the transporter: Petite Gwen came right out of her transport crate and straight into my husband's arms! Then she went right to work doing her business. She was quite excited and when she's excited she leaps straight up and down – not on you, just up and down. She got into our crate with no assistance. Gwen rode with another dog and they quickly became friends, kissing through the crate. When I reached back through the cage bars and called to her, Gwen scooted up to me and gave me kisses. She rode well in the car, relaxed and quiet. I fell in love with her – she will be a great dog for a very lucky family. She is approved for kids 10+. More info soon!

Adopters must meet these requirements:
Setting: Rural
Dwelling: Single Family Home
Fencing: No Fence Required

Update: Gwen is such a sweet girl. She has an energetic personality, and is so spunky! She loves to play, and loves her walks. She sleeps through the night, is totally house trained, and bonds to her humans super fast. She is a Velcro girl, and loves to follow her humans around. If you work from home, she would absolutely love to be a trip hazard and lay right next to your chair all day.

Update: Little Gwen has proven herself to be quite the easy foster. She's a goofy, sweet girl who really loves her humans. She has an energy about her, but doesn't require a crazy amount of exercise. We are removing the fenced yard requirement as she has great recall and can be exercised appropriately on leash. She will follow you everywhere, and be your little shadow. If you are looking for a pocket sized snuggle-bug who will be your constant companion, it's Gwen.

Update: Gwen is such a sweet and smart little girl! She definitely has energy but can settle down too, and enjoys a good snuggle. She is very good with the rest of the pack, and barely noticed them when introduced. She's a complete people dog. She loves her humans and wants to be with you. She's a Velcro girl, and would love to be your constant companion. She's not sure really how to play with other dogs, but will follow them around the yard. Gwen is curious about everything and super smart. She knows sit, down, come, shake paw, and even stay!! She's a pint sized cutie. This girl is going to be a wonderful addition. Watch Gwen's commands in the video.

This dog is from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.

This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. Lab Rescue LRCP rescues and places dogs in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and northeast North Carolina (30 miles east of I-95 and north of the Pamlico Sound) Adopters must travel to Maryland, Virginia or Washington DC with their family - human and canine - to meet the dog they want to adopt.

Lab Rescue LRCP has between 50 - 80 dogs available for adoption from foster homes across Maryland and Virginia and at monthly adoption events. The adoption event dates are listed at www.lab-rescue.org.

If you are interested in adopting, please visit www.lab-rescue.org and complete an adoption application. Within a few days of submitting an application you will hear from an Adoption Coordinator who will guide you through the adoption process.
