My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Missie is located in CT and if interested fill out a application here Located in CT! fill out a app here http://www.bestfriendsforlifeanimalrescue.com/AdoptionApplication.html

If you hear a voice in the middle of the night Sayin' it'll be alright It will be me If you feel a hand guiding you along
When the path seems wrong It will be me If there is a key that goes to your heart A special part It will be me
If you need a friend Call out to the wind To hold you again It will be me-from 'It Will Be Me' by Melissa Etheridge
If ever a sweet formerly abused and neglected girl needed to hear that voice saying 'It'll be alright' it is without a doubt our beautiful Missie. Missie is an 18 month old brindle Hound/black mouth Cur mix who came into rescue from a high kill southern shelter. She was nothing more than a skeleton weighing only 25 lbs. and now weighs a healthy 40 lbs! It was quite apparent that her previous life was fraught with misery and hunger. Thankfully being placed in a loving, albeit, temporary foster home s has thrived and learned that people can be caring, good, and kind. Missie has overcome so much in just a short period of time. She never saw the inside of a home or slept in a safe soft comfortable place. She has had to learn everything from scratch and has made great strides! She has done wonderful with her potty training and is learning boundaries in her house training. She will need parents who will continue to help her along the way until she understands what things are appropriate toys and things that are not (like a puppy but smarter). She is smart, eager to please, and willing learn so it would just be a matter of learning new surroundings and routines. Missie is already crate trained and is very good on leash. She loves other dogs and very much enjoys playing and running laps at the dog park. Missie does well with calmer dog savvy cats but has a tendency to chase after the ones who zoom around so we are erring on the side of cat friendly with lazy cats. After all she had been through, it took a little time for her to gain trust in humans. She is still a bit submissive initially but warms up quickly once she realizes her new friends are nice people. After that...beware of lots of wiggles, waggles, and cuddles. Speaking of wiggles, this adorable girl does a whole back body wiggle dance when she gets excited, CUTEST thing EVER!!! Missie would do best in a non chaotic home where she can continue to gain confidence and get the further training and attention that will help her achieve to be the best girl ever. We think she would make a great running partner as she will require daily exercise and she LOVES to run. Missie will also need some really good chew toys to keep her entertained and occupied, (your shoes, should you leave them about, will thank you). So don't skimp on the toys as this will help her with learning boundaries. Missie is already spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, current on preventatives, and micro chipped. She is already a great pup, but with time, training, and patience, she will be pretty much perfect. Missie is ready to finally get her forever after happy ending with someone who will guide her along the way, be a forever mom or dad, and tell her it's all right. Can she be the key to your heart...a special part? Will it be you?
