My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Holly’s life began as we know it from the dog pound. She was picked up as a stray and had road rash. She could hardly put weight on her front legs. With x-rays no bones were broken. She was scared and fearful. The pound called Sierra Pacific Rescue thinking she was a Great Pyrenees. Pam immediately picked Holly up and brought her to her rescue kennels. MaryAnn Kenniger saw her there years ago and told Pam she looked more like a Kuvasz than a Great Pyrenees. Pam placed her a couple times thinking she was a Great Pyrenees with that sweet loving devoted temperament. But she was not a Great Pyrenees and exhibits personalities of a Kuvasz. A Kuvasz is more of a single person dog. Holly seems that way. She does accept men but is selective which a fearful dog can do. If she feels her space is being invaded she does lash out.
I have had Holly for two months now going on three. She seems to be very much a Kuvasz personality. She accepts leadership. She would do anything for me including putting her life before mine if it came down to it. With that being said she needs a strong person that will let her know her limitations and boundaries. She is not for a person that wants to totally spoil and let her do anything she wants. She is for a person that wants to feel protected and can enjoy her very sweet personality when she has accepted that person. It doesn’t take her long to accept the right person.
Holly is a happy dog and loves to play with toys. She will happily bring them to you to share with her. She loves to play with the hose. She loves to go on walks and is not aggressive toward dogs or people. But she is not friendly either so going to a dog park or having a person reach out to her is not recommended. A breed comparison may be like a German Shepherd. But she is more a single person dog than would be a family dog.
She is a great house dog. She does not tear anything up and can be trusted in the house. She likes to follow you around and lay near you. She is not hyper but has lots of get up and go when it comes to a walk or playing.
Holly was not socialized with other dogs. She does tolerate them with your guidance. Males would probably be the best roommates for her. She also gets along with cats.
Holly needs a forever home. She has reached a point with me that she is tolerating my other dogs and my husband but not really happy. I want her to be happy and I know that forever home is out there.
If you want a dog that loves to be your devoted companion but needs to have your leadership, this could be the dog for you. Please call if you are interested. Holly needs her forever home to enjoy the rest of her life. Holly's foster mom's phone number is (480)980-2602, please give her a call.
