Duke came to us from a dog pound where his sister went into labor. She moved to a rescue who could care for the mom and babies and we kept Duke. Unfortunately both dogs were never socialized with humans and they are fearful of new people. Duke is 30 lbs, has been given full vet care and is approx. 3 years old. He is living in the home of one of our dog trainers now. From his Dog Trainer: Duke will need continued work and help with dealing with the world. He is a very sweet boy and is making an effort to get better. He’s not a very fearful dog in general, but he’s very fearful and leery of people. I think it has to be due to the fact he wasn’t exposed to people much in his life. I’ve had him for over a week now and he’s already improved a lot. He’s happy and excited to see me, wagging his tail and really likes affection. However he’s still very aware of body language and cowers and tries to run if you move too fast or lean over him. He hasn’t met any new people since I’ve had him other than me and my husband. He hasn’t warmed up to my husband yet, he’ll come up to him and sniff, but won’t let him pet him. The thing with fearful dogs is that we can’t really set a time frame for how quickly they progress, it’s really up to them. MORE UPDATES AND PHOTOS TO BE SENT SOON. Duke must be adopted by experienced dog owners and an adult only home within 30 miles of Avon to continue his work with his trainer. Another confident well adjust dog in the household will be great too for his confidence building. He loves other dogs.

About FIDO's Companion Rescue Inc

About Our Rescue Group...

We operate out of Avon, Ohio. We primarily rescue dogs from the Lorain County Dog Kennel and other Dog Pounds before they are put to sleep. We secondarily assist with taking in homeless stray dogs and funding the spay/neuter of homeless dogs and cats for other independent local rescuers and vet clinics who take them in off the street and work to rehome them. Lastly, we provide and fund the transportation for all adopted dogs going to vet clinics for the Mandatory Spay & Neuter Program at the Lorain County Dog Kennel.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a shelter. Our rescued animals are kept in foster homes or boarding facilities primarily on the west side of Cleveland until loving forever homes can be found. Please remember we are all VOLUNTEERS who work full-time jobs. We will do our best to return your emails/calls within 24 hours.

Our Adoption Process...

If you wish to adopt one of our great pets, go to our website at and submit an application on our adoption page. Once your application is submitted and approved, we can set up a time for you to meet the dog(s) you are interested in. We do not operate on a first come, first serve basis. We strive to find the most compatible home for our dogs and look for adopters who are certain they want to make a lifetime commitment to our rescued dogs. We also require a home visit as a part of our adoption process. If we do not have an animal that interests you, we may be able to help put you in contact with the many other organizations with which we network. ADOPTION FEES - Individual fees apply based on each dog rescued. See individual dog's bio for adoption fees that apply.
