My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**PLEASE READ TO THE END FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION.**

Sonja is a 7- to 9-yr-old special needs senior. She weighs about 8 lbs. She has bad back legs that, due to her age, we are not going to surgically repair. They do not seem to bother her most of the time, but she has some pain meds for those cold, rainy days. You can see in some of the pictures how her back legs bow out, but it doesn't seem to slow her down as much anymore. She is silly, goofy, and happy. Since she has gotten more confident, she stands up straighter and carries herself better than she used to. As a matter of fact, we had a hard time getting these pictures because she was frisky and running silly circles around the living room.

Sonja has always had allergies and skin issues that we continue to figure out and try to help her with the best we can. Her skin stays about like you see it in her photos. With twice weekly baths and treatment with Apoquel, Sonja chews and itches a lot less than she used to. She has small bald spots on her shoulders, rump, and tail as well as patchy hair on her face. Her tummy is mostly naked, and the skin between her back legs stays scaly.

She'll definitely need someone who understands that she is special needs, but she's a fantastic companion, and we think she'll prove worth the extra work to whoever takes her home. Sonja is available through our Seniors for Seniors program, so her adoption fee will be waived for the right senior companion. She will come with a 3-month supply of her medication, but it will be up to her adopter to up keep with her meds. She needs to be on a good allergy diet and take Apoquel along with her occasional pain meds. On average, the cost for her medications is approximately $40 a month, so although her adoption fee is waived, Sonja will need to go to a home that can financially care for her ongoing needs of medications to keep her comfortable and a hyperallergenic diet.

Sonja is part of our 2nd Chance Seniors program, meaning her adoption fee will be waived with an approved application by an awesome person or family. If you would like to adopt Sonja, please fill out an application at www.TexasChihuahuaRescue.com.

Texas Chihuahua Rescue is based in San Antonio, Texas. All of our adoptable dogs are located in the San Antonio area.
