In this era of social media, it’s all about the visual when it comes to adopting dogs. The cuter the face, the more applications! Mattie is so much more than a pretty face. Adopting a pet is a bit like looking for a roommate or significant other—the more you know beforehand, the greater the odds of a successful relationship. How tolerant are you of slobber, fur, jumping. Do you have visions of evenings by the fire with your dog, running along a country path with her by your side, spending time in your backyard with her at your feet admiring the flowers? Of course the dog in the photo gazing into the camera will never bark, dig up your bulbs, or roll in a dead animal. Life is not like a big budget movie. Animatch is asking that you take a realistic look at your expectations BEFORE ADOPTING. Set yourself up for success. Mattie has the potential of being an amazing dog to her family, she just needs the perfect family to meet her needs.
Mattie was given up because she was too much dog for her human. Attached to this lovely face is an adolescent dog full of exuberant energy who uses people as a springboard, mouths her human a little too hard, and has no clue when it comes to basic commands. Animatch knew just the people who could help us with this makeover. Mattie is now at FIC (École de Formation des Intervenants Canins du Québec) in Laval. According to Virginie Forest, Mattie is a good dog who will need training (and lots of it), exercise (and lots of it), patience, and commitment. Animatch and FIC will provide more news on Mattie’s progress as time goes on.
Mattie would do best with an experienced guardian who understands high energy dogs. Because of her tendency to use her mouth and jump, older children would best suit her. Obedience training should be an ongoing for Mattie until she is a good canine citizen. If you feel you can be a successful match for Mattie, please fill in the Adoption Form.
