Olive and Powder, we last saw you as sweet, innocent kittens. Our dedicated foster families nursed you through illness and helped you grow big and strong enough to be adopted into what was supposed to be your forever family. That in August of 2013. We were a newer rescue then, but we had already developed a strong position against declawing. We talked to your new owners at length about it and received their assurances that you would not be subject to the barbaric practice. They signed our contract prohibiting declawing and promised to care for you forever. They were so excited to adopt and could not wait to take you girls home.
We don't know how it came to be that you ended up abandoned in a cat carrier in a parking lot in the cold in late November. Surely we failed you somehow. When we contacted the lovely person who had taken you girls in and was caring for you, she told us that what was one of our worst nightmares for any of our cats had come true. Not only were you cruelly abandoned in the cold, you had both been FOUR PAW DECLAWED. We are so sorry. We try so hard to make sure that this never happens to any of our cats and yet here we are. We have contracts, we educate, we screen applications, and despite all of that you both have to suffer for the rest of your lives.
*** HERE IS WHERE WE NEED HELP***
Olive and Powder are now looking for a foster home or adopter that can help rehabilitate them. Olive is doing fairly well, but Powder is not. Powder can only be handled by the male in the household and lashes out at females. We will get them checked out again medically. They're currently living with the person that found them, but ideally they need to be back in Chicago and near our vet. They are a bonded pair and need to stay together.
