My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

NOTE: This is a courtesy posting for another rescuer. Please do not contact ARRF, as we do not know this pet personally. To meet Bernie, contact ‘D’ at 619.462.2270 or email 22fivegal@gmail.com.

Bernie is 3 years old and would love to be your one and only and devote himself to you. He is a Terrier mix, is all white and weighs 20 pounds. He is very curious by nature, but responds well to commands and is smart and loving. He is house trained, neutered, wormed and is up-to-date with his Distemper/Parvo shots. Medical records will be provided. He is the ultimate burglar alarm system. He will protect you and your home by letting you know if someone is there who should not be. He loves to go for walks. He is a bit anxious when first meeting people, especially men, and needs time to warm up to them. Once you give him the time to warm up to the situation, mostly by ignoring him, he will connect. He responds well to positive reinforcement and patience when training him.

He is very well behaved, quiet, and knows sit, stay and come. Bernie loves to run around the yard and has a lot of energy and needs someone who can keep up with him. He is not a digger. He enjoys his treats and waits patiently for you to get home. He runs to greet you with a wagging tail and welcoming jump. He does enjoy the company of dogs and gets along with children.

A home visit will be conducted to help ensure the right home for Bernie and his new adopter. An application for adoption will be requested. Medical records will be provided. Please contact D at 619.462.2270 or 22fivegal@gmail.com for more information on adopting Bernie.

INFORMATION ABOUT TERRIERS. Commonly friendly, some breeds are wary of strangers. A busy terrier is a happy terrier. Terriers need a variety of outlets to release their abundant energy, including lots of exercise. They can make ideal workout partners for activities like hiking, jogging and long walks. Terriers respond well to reward-based training, in particular clicker training, because they are problem solvers and highly motivated by incentives, like play and treats. Impulse-control exercises like waiting at the door are especially important for teaching terriers delayed gratification.
