Duchess is a 2 year old female, black German Shepherd dog who was brought to our shelter on September 16th after being found as a stray on someone's property. Duchess was heavily pregnant when she showed up, so the property owners took care of her until she had her four pups. Unable to care for five dogs who weren't theirs, the property owners brought the family to us. Duchess has been a wonderful, loving mother to her babies, and it's clear they adore her. She has allowed us to handle the brood as we need to without showing the least bit of aggression towards us. The entire family received a much needed bath today, and they all look and smell wonderful now! Duchess has a huge, lovable personality of her own, and has given her puppies a wonderful start in life. They appear to be mixed with Lab, but Duchess is purebred. She would be best suited to a home with German Shepherd experience, and she will require a good bit of exercise. Dutchess should also be signed up for basic obedience class after she is adopted. You may ask at the front desk for more information about that.
We welcome adoptions from people living out of the area or out of the state of Virginia. The application process is completed in person at the shelter.
