Here's what the humans have to say about me:
THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING. ADR is not responsible for the health, temperament, behavior or placement of this dog. Listings are done at the request of the dog's owner and as an outreach and community service in hopes of finding these dogs a loving, stable forever home. Placement decisions are made solely at the discretion of the owner, and not Austin Dog Rescue. Owners are required to ask for an adoption fee from adopters.
This is the information that we received from Bowzer's current family:
Bowzer, a sweet Boxer mix who I took in as a foster 6 months ago, needs a forever home. He has brought a lot of joy to our household, and we will miss him greatly.
Bowzer came to us from a really bad situation - living in 100+ heat, neglected and based on his initial behavior with us, I think physically traumatized as well. We have spent the last 6 months getting him healthy, encouraging him to trust that he won't be harmed, and simply nurturing him.
The vet thinks he is about a year & 8 months, give or take a few months. He weighs 70 lbs, & is house- trained now, as long as he isn't left for too long. He is one of the biggest cuddle pups I've ever known; super sweet and lovable. He also has a lot of energy, and needs exercise daily as well as play to keep his brain busy. He would do well in a home with other dogs - he is submissive - but I would recommend a home that does not have small children. Loud noises, rambunctious behavior - these things make him nervous. He is skittish around my 3-year-old when he isn't being calm... he has nipped at him twice. He is not aggressive, but he does have some anxiety. I have tried using pheromone collars, and they seem to help.
Bowzer is up-to-date on all his shots. I have him on a wellness plan at Banfield Animal Hospital (Pet Smart vet)... his visits are free, and any prescriptions are discounted. The plan also includes his vaccines. I will pay out the remainder of this year (through mid-June) for whoever adopts him.
