My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ranger

Ranger is an approximately 3-year-old male who came into MAGDRL as a stray. He was very emaciated, weighing under 90 pounds when he has the frame for about 140. We are working on getting him to a healthy weight. Despite being a stray, he is a very sweet dog with no aggression towards humans or other dogs. He loves everyone he meets and will snuggle with you on the couch when he is tired. Ranger is an EXPERT counter surfer and is known to "range" around the house looking for crumbs or anything to eat. He is working on learning manners in his foster home.

Ranger still has a lot of puppy energy and does tend to nip at both humans and dogs during play. He would love to have another high-energy dog to play with that doesn't mind playing a bit rough (his 9 year foster sister won't have anything to do with him). Due to his rough play, and that Ranger would also likely steal food from unsuspecting children, we recommend no children under 12.

Ranger loves being with his people and will follow you wherever you go - he will even stick his nose in the shower to make sure you are still there! He is also trying to rest his drooling face on my arm while I type this. He walks extremely well on leash and enjoys sticking his head out of the car window. He can't wait to meet his forever family! Ranger has settled in very nicely. At his vet checkup last week, he was up to 112.3 lbs! He still moves around fast and has a whip of a tail, which makes his grandma and Dane sister nervous. We are still learning his quirks - he is scared of newspapers being thrown on driveways and he barks at fireworks and ice makers. He also will ignore dog beds if in any way he can fit on the couch. Ranger is still very needy for attention, and will wiggle his way to be next to you if attention is given to someone else. He rarely lets his foster family get more than a few feet away from him. He has not been left alone much, and we would recommend crating him with some toys if no one is home. Ranger has learned to sit and wait when asked and is working on laying down when his people are eating. He does get impatient whenever food is involved. He has no food aggression - he just wants whatever anyone else is having. He has met a few dogs on leash. He had no issues when his foster aunt introduced him, but did growl a little at first when his foster mom did, so he is a bit owner protective. He stopped growling immediately when other dogs' owner gave him a treat, and ignored the dogs to give puppy eyes to owner.

Ranger would be a great companion for an active older couple or family who will let him snuggle with him on the couch.

Ranger is such a happy dog! He is almost always wagging his tail and he loves to meet everyone. He's learned to stand up and hug, and is now trying to do it to everyone he meets on walks, and when his foster mama says no, he tries to hug her instead. He walks very nicely, and then gets the zoomies in the backyard once he gets home. Ranger has grown very attached to his Dane foster sister, and would love to have another dog in the house to play and cuddle with. His current favorite games are playing monkey in the middle with one of his toys and having treats thrown around the back yard to he can range around and find them. Ranger's mouthing has decreased significantly, but he still does it when excited or cuddle-wrestling with his humans. We keep a stuffed bee around to stick in his mouth and he is able to keep playing as long as he chews on it and not us! We call it his pacifier. Ranger seems to be good with all dogs, but most of the ones he has met have been intimidated by his size and quickness, so he will need to be placed with a confident dog. He does take correction well from other dogs and has no aggression that we've seen. He's a very sweet boy!
