My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**PLEASE READ TO THE END FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION.**

Papaya is 10 to 12 years old and a bit on the pudgy side at 5.5, but we think she is the perfect size. She was found by a good samaritan who picked her up in the middle of a busy street. Sweet Papaya was definitely someone's dog at some point. We would like to give the benefit of the doubt and believe that she "got lost" or "accidentally got out," but truly this little old lady is not running any marathons and has suffered through years of neglect. She came to us in horrible condition, in desperate need of a dental and infested with so many fleas that it took over an hour to comb and bathe her to get rid of them. We quickly got her to the vet, and all her blood work is great. Papaya has had a dental, losing most of her teeth and having a little work on her jaw. She has been fully vaccinated. Papaya has a grade 6 heart murmur, but she is, miraculously and thankfully, heartworm negative. Her knees and hips reflect the years of neglect and very likely a horrible diet, and we recommend a healthy diet and glucosamine/chondroitin supplements. She has luxating patellae, but at this age, we are not going to put her through surgery. She gets along just fine and is not in any pain for the most part but might benefit from pain meds when her joints occasionally bother her.

We are very surprised that we haven't received any applications for Papaya yet. Her fosters say that Papaya is definitely one of the top 10 best fosters they have ever had. She is smart, acclimates well, is extremely sweet, and is very easy going. Papaya sleeps in bed with her foster parents and enjoys lying on her blanket at the back of the couch, which is where she spends most of her day. She likes to explore outside and will spend quite a long time sniffing every little thing in the yard, especially when it is warm and sunny. It did not take her long to get the potty thing down, and within 1 week she was giving a little bark when she needed to go out. That said, she sleeps through the night but likes to go out often during the day. If left at home for 8 hours, accommodations such as putting her in an uncarpeted area with potty pads will need to be made as she cannot hold her bladder that long.
Papaya LOVES food her food! She gets wet food twice a day and gets very silly and excited when it is time to eat. She is also super-soft. She also loves to be held. She is so sweet and beautiful inside and out. She gets along with everyone, though she seems to prefer the men she has met since she came to TXCR. She is fine with other dogs and tolerates their presence, though she doesn't really interact with them a lot. We think Papaya has several more trips around the sun left in her. She is an amazing dog and she deserves an amazing home. You'll be rewarded a hundredfold in sweet doggy snuggles and kisses!
