We are scratching our heads as to why Palmer couldn't pass his temperament testing at the shelter or why no other rescue group would pull him. We waited until we got word that he was scheduled to be euthanized, then we juggled a few things around and found a foster home spot for him.
He desperately needed grooming. We don't think he had ever been groomed before. There was a concern that he wouldn't tolerate being groomed, unless sedated. We decided to try it without meds. He endured an hour-long de-matting session, like a champ, often giving the groomer kisses of gratitude.
It was amazing how much his looks AND BEHAVIOR changed after his grooming. He was a totally different dog. He loves attention from people. He is very playful and loves his toys. At the shelter, he didn't test well with other dogs, but in his temporary foster home (after grooming) he played really well with the other dogs. Before grooming he was good with cats, after grooming: not so much. He would be okay with older children in the family.
