Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Our Magnificent Maxwell takes our collective breath away. He is one of the most exquisite looking dogs that we have met. Maxwell is a beautiful Siberian Husky, with the breed characteristic ice blue eyes. He has a glistening tri-color, blue-black coat with pronounced cream and tan markings. He is a great example of the breed in his proud stance and formidable structure.
Often we find that a Husky's beauty is his or her downfall. These stunning dogs attract a wide array of adopters ranging from extremely savvy, to those novices bewitched with his or her "wolf-like" appearance. We believe wholeheartedly that a Husky, regardless of individual temperment, requires dog handling ability that is well above average. Time and time again, we have known Huskies who have foiled the best laid intentions of their novice adopters.
Two years old, Maxwell is a formidable presence. He is large for a Husky, and weighs in at a very solid 60 pounds. He is tall and leggy, and extremely athletic. While Maxwell has a generally friendly demeanor, and seems to enjoy the attentions of strangers, he also has a very well entrenched alpha male vibe, and requires some serious handling chops and command presence in an Adopter.
Maxwell would be the ideal companion for very serious Husky folks, who are comfortable establishing rules and boundaries, with Huskies, or large breeds, so that Maxwell knows exactly where he stands. A loosey-goosey home structure will allow him to assert himself in ways that are not optimal for a human-canine living arrangement! We shudder to think of Maxwell in charge of the checkbook or remote control, not to mention everything in the refrigerator! And by all means, Maxwell should not be given an Amazon.com account.
The key to success with Maxwell is sufficient of exercise, and ongoing obedience training to maintain leadership. He is a high-energy dog who needs a couple brisk leash walks each day and, preferably, an active outdoor lifestyle with a Husky savvy single or couple. He would be the ideal running or walking companion, and would love to accompany his adopters on hiking or camping adventures. He loves the outdoors, and needs to be in a home with an active lifestyle into which he can be integrated, not relegated to a backyard.
Maxwell would be best-suited to an only dog environment, or perhaps one other compatible female. While Maxwell can be bossy and demanding in the Dog Pack, we certainly wouldn't rule out the right dog chemistry, but we would have to test this carefully at adoption. He seems to have some buddies in his canine playgroup, but then also seems to bully some dogs of lesser stature. He would not be suitable for a home with cats or small children.
Maxwell has decent house manners, that will continue to improve under his Adopter' patient, knowledgeable leadership. He is house trained and crate trained, although adapters should expect an accident or two during his transition to a new home. Maxwell is in excellent health, and has been neutered, and is up to date on routine shots and has tested negative for heartworm and tick borne disease.
