My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.

We at PDR firmly believe in the importance of obedience training, regardless of breed or size of dog, and have a clause in our adoption contract requiring adopters to attend and complete a basic obedience course at a facility of their choosing. Only in certain circumstances will we waive this clause, so please be prepared to attend dog school should you wish to apply for a dog through our program.

For more information and adoption applications please consult our website at www.pounddog.ca.

Looking for a running partner? Cuddle buddy? Loyal companion? Trail partner? Look no further, with the right training and patience, Lacey the 1yr old hound cross would be the perfect contender for anybody willing to give her the guidance and love she deserves!

When we first met Lacey she was in a rural pound and was an unclaimed stray. Lacey is a one year old female brown, black and white Coonhound / Foxhound mix weighing approximately 53bs of pure goofiness. From first sight we observed how friendly Lacey was and how much she appreciated a good run and cuddle. After only a couple hours with us, it was clear how loyal and affectionate of a dog she was with her funny demeanour and loveable personality.

When Lacey first came to us she did have some house breaking accidents inside the house, however with consistency and proper training she has learned that the house is not a bathroom! Lacey has been crate trained while in foster care at night and while we are away, and has quickly picked up the “to your crate” command. Lacey quickly learned her name. When you call her there’s no doubt you’ll see her ears flapping in the wind as she comes running with her great stride!

Lacey has been known to offer us “gifts” as she brings our shoes and other items to us, however is quickly learning that these “gifts” aren’t necessary to receive love! Lacey is still very much a puppy and needs to be supervised in the home so that she doesn’t get into mischief. Without quick correction and the attention a dog deserves, Lacey will chew on household items, however that is something we are working on and will continue to work on and correct!

Lacey has never been obsessive or guarding of her food bowl or treats and is always willing to share with her humans. She is currently being fostered in a house with another large breed dog and at first she was a bit possessive with her food or toys with him but quickly learned that is not the way to make friends! She loves toy time and starting or stopping toy interaction has never been an issue as she appreciates any and all attention. Lacey would love a home with another young, playful dog that likes to run and play. Playing with a good dog friend is a great way for her to burn off energy. She has also been to doggie daycare and loves it there and has made a ton of dog friends. We don’t know how Lacey would be with cats, but as she is a large hound it would be best for her to go to a home without a cat.

Lacey definitely inherited the hound trait of being able to sniff out anything and follow the track of anything her nose wishes. That being said, she would best be suited in a house with a fenced in yard with no holes or means of escape as her nose may lead her elsewhere! Even the squirrels with the guts to enter our yard are sniffed out by her nose! Lacey has seen our neighbours and their dog through the gated fence in the back yard and greets them excitedly wanting to play, never having shown signs of aggression at strangers. Because she is a hound dog, Lacey can never be trusted off leash outside of a secure fenced in area. She is super-fast and when she catches a scent she will be off like a rocket.

Lacey loves going for leashed walks acknowledging every passer-by. Lacey walks best on a gentle leader around the neighbourhood and quietly leader as she is still getting used to a household joy of being taken for walks. Lacey requires more than just a daily walk though to be happy. She is a young dog, bred to run long distances, and needs the outlet of running and playing. She is being trained to run right alongside her person and has done great with this. She loves her runs and paces herself really well to your pace. We would love for Lacey to go to a home with someone who will run with her multiple times a week. As mentioned, having a large fenced yard with another dog to run and play with will also be a great way for her to expend her energy. Lacey will be looking for a family of active people (or person) who are looking for a fun loving, active dog to join in their runs, bikes, and/or hikes. She is equally capable of cuddling on the couch in the evening after a busy day and will be a great companion in all your activities. Lacey also loves car rides and sits quietly in the back seat watching all that passes her by, so she is a great travel companion.

Lacey is not being fostered in a home with children however our extended family includes two young boys that she remained calm around and accepted the cuddles and hugs being offered by them. We have visited with older children which Lacey loved to play with and really let her goofy personality shine through! We feel that Lacey would be a fine dog to go to a home with children over the age of 5yrs as long as the adults in the home are committed to exercising her daily to her needs.

Lacey does well meeting new adult females and can be a bit timid meeting adult males however she warms up quickly, especially if she figures the man will play with her. Continued socialization with all kinds of people will be important for her as she matures. Attending obedience school is a requirement of her adoption and she will love the social aspect of it….and the treats. She loves treats. Dog school will be great for her socialization as well.

Lacey’s biggest enjoyment comes from fresh air and new adventures including runs followed by cuddles! She is such a loveable and cuddly pooch and needs to be in a home where she receives the love she deserves. Her playful and goofy demeanour is sure to win over every heart she encounters as she has ours.

We can honestly say we have not met many dogs happier than Lacey with her high energy and funny quirks. So now we have a couple questions for you! Will you allow Lacey to bring her happiness into your family and be the great addition that’s a moral boost for all? Are you willing to save this rescue by giving her a great forever home and in turn accepting the happiness she brings to all she encounters? If you are, you may just be the perfect fit for this funny hound who is waiting to find her forever home!
