My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

JAKE: 13 Year Old Black Male Lab Neutered 70 Pounds

“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”

Roger Caras

Jake I am sorry you ended up in the shelter; but I am happy GGLRR could rescue you, get you the medical you needed, get you into a wonderful foster home and now find you a new forever home.

Unfortunately Jakes owner has Alzheimer’s and his kids were doing the best they could to take care of their dad and Jake. Unfortunately Jake’s health needs were not kept up and the kids decided it was best to take Jake to the shelter. (Please everyone out there google rescue groups in your area; there is no need for senior dogs to be taken to the shelter! It may not be your pet but take some time to make sure the dog has a happy ending to his/her life. They have given you many great years and would do anything for you!)

GGLRR pulled Jake from the shelter as we knew he was not going to get adopted at 13 years of age. We took him to our boarding facility we use so we could get him groomed and the medical care he needed. He is just such an easy dog with a BIG loving personality. He loves to be with people, loves all the attention but will settle down on his dog bed once you walk away. He gets along with all dogs but since he was not neutered he does like to hump other dogs. (He does stop once the other dog tells him no.) He was an inside dog in his previous home and he is very clean in his kennel run so we would think Jake would be housetrained. He moves around slowly and GGLRR will get him on some meds for arthritis. He does try to play ball but we do not think he sees that well and of course he may not hear that well. He takes treats very easy, you can take the ball away from him and he will go back into his run with no complaints. Jake is one easy, happy guy that just wants a comfy bed to rest his head on for the remainder of his life.

Medical:

GGLRR decided to neuter Jake as they needed to put him under to clean his ears; as he had a bad ear infection in both ears. He has all his shots, full blood panel, is neutered and microchipped.

Jake is a very easy dog and could go to a home with another older dog, with cats and we would like a home with older kids that would be easy on him.

There is a special place in heaven for those who give their hearts to an older dog.

If you are looking for a nice sweet gentle boy to be part of your pack please email Rescue Rep Liz at liz@jobshopsf.com or call 415-613-6374.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
