My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We're looking for a long-term/forever foster for Peanut (aka Mama). She's desperate for a kind person who will want to hold her on their lap or in their arms throughout the day.

Little Mama is the sweetest little thing. She wags her tail so quickly, that we think she's part rattlesnake. You will melt when she looks up at you with big puppy dog eyes and laid-back ears. Mama wants you to pick her up. She lives for it.

Mama likes all kinds of affection but especially loves tummyy rubs and lap time. Despite her addiction to cuddles, she will rest quietly on her own when you are busy. She is even content to be home alone for 8 hours a day.

She is not destructive in the house but, like most dogs, she will chew/swallow food-related items (wrappers, containers, pits). Because she is so small, things that don't hurt other dogs could kill her, so please be a conscientious person if you apply to be her guardian.

Mama does not need to be walked daily but should get plenty of fresh air and have a safe place indoors or out to run around. She will zoom about the house and tire herself out from time to time. It's adorable. She will also play with your hand as if it were another little dog. It is super cute.

Mama is living with dogs and cats but is not thrilled about it. She would prefer to be an only pet, but can live with another pet if the adopter is careful not to let Mama be a bully and vice versa. She can't be trusted with small kittens but she's been fine with our adult cats.

Mama is really good off-leash at a fenced dog park.

She is Crate trained.

She is pee pad and doggy door trained.

She is good on leash, but can't walk far due an old injury.

Mama is doing well on a prescription hydrolyzed protein diet with a few medications added to her meals (to soothe her digestive tract). She's allergic to cooked (and raw?) beef, dairy, and probably eggs. She should not be subjected to further vaccination because it can exacerbate food allergies and create more intolerances. She has a non-specified liver condition yet is doing well on a special formula we make for her that is one of the medicines added to her food.

Thank you for reading about Mama. She is looking forward to meeting you.

Additional adoption info

If we have an adoptable pet you are interested in, please message us with some details about your home/family and request an application. Please allow 5 days for a response and if you don't get one, please email again.
If you're interested in helping us keep special needs pets alive and well, please arrange a recurring weekly or monthly donation at LJK9.com Even $5/week helps a lot. Thank You.

If you wish to adopt a single kitten, please note this. Kittens who have no other kittens to grow up with can be too rough as they grow larger and don't realize their increasing strength. Humans can communicate with cats, but fall short of what other cats can teach. Single kitten syndrome is a major factor in cats being given up to shelters so please do your part in preventing this by refusing to adopt a single kitten under 12 wks of age.

Prior to applying for a pet from any rescue, Please watch The Truth About Pet Cancer (linked below) to learn about common products linked to cancer. No doumentary is perfectly unbiased, so please ignore the unsubstantiated, biased claims and those based on single events. Please pay close attention to the parts backed by convincing evidence.

Please also note that Luckydog is generally against the use of essential oils in homes with pets. Many vets recommend them because they have some beneficial effects in some pets but nobody has propertly studied the long-term effects of exposure to these oils. Even undetectable vapors from EOs can be deadly. A pet owner may not realize a pet's been exposed and that pet may go on to be diagnosed with non-specific liver or kidney disease, for example, or seizures. The problem may never be linked to the EOs in the home. I'm yet to see a veterinary laboratory order form that offers a test for EO toxicity. The only way we find out a pet's been injured by EO's is usually when they've been acutely poisoned (exposed to large amounts in a short period of time) and get extremely ill. We recommend avoiding most fragrances and EO's in a home with pets.

Luckydog is big on promoting natural, holistic, and integrative health-optimization-protocols and wil like to help you keep your pet healthy after adoption (or while being fostered). Our experts scrutinize information gathered from thousands of medical journal entries and hundreds of experts rather than simply regurgitating the opinions of a single expert or community.

What Luckydog does isn't easy but we hope that it makes pet care easy for our followers. Luckydog's goal is to ensure you have no regrets on the day that you say "goodbye" to your furkid and that that day doesn't come any sooner than it has to. With that in mind, please enjoy this video series then come to our website (a work in progress) for more information. LJK9.com is our website.

More about this rescue

"You can't buy love, but you can adopt it, at Luckydog Sanctuary!"

Luckydog Sanctuary is San Diego's premiere holistic pet rescue and sanctuary. At Luckydog, we use nutrition and gentle remedies to help pets achieve balance. Our specialty is lifetime care and support of pets who require special care, training, and protection. Many of our pets cannot receive vaccinations. If you don't own your home, the risk that your landlord could require vaccination, is too big a risk for us to take. We can only adopt out to homeowners with a clear desire to raise their pets holistically.

Looking forward to a vacation? Your reservation in one of the sanctuary cottages will help us care for the pets under the care of Luckydog Sanctuary. The cottages are private with private outdoor spaces and you can bring your dog along for a dog-centric vacation near Windansea Beach. The Doggone Dandy Discount promotion is available to select Luckydog Supporters. Contact us for more information.
