Meet Bruno!  Much like his name, he is BIG and Strong!  But he also has a soft side and a past.. that he  isnt telling us about.  Bruno spent most of his life on a chain and neglected.  He now craves attention.  He gets so excited when he sees his favorite person that he hops about 3 feet off the ground.  For this reason, he needs a TALL fence (about 6 ft). He is good with female dogs, and not great with cats. He LOVES his favorite chair, despite it being well used before he ever got it. He thinks he is the king of the world snuggled in at night in that chair.   He is an awesome judge of character with a big personality. He has an intense fear of a hose pipe and does not like to be sprayed with water.  He has been fostered in a kennel environment and will need some work with house training. But he is a smart boy and will learn quick.  He may already have it mastered as he tries to hold it. Bruno would do best with a kind experienced owner.  He is neutered, heartworm negative and up to date on vaccines.  For more info email

About Friends of Rescue - Portland, ME

About Our Rescue Group...

Friends of Rescue is a certified 501(c)(3) organization formed in 2009, consisting of volunteers who are devoted to saving shelter animals that are in danger of euthanasia. Southern shelters have a constant overflow of dogs and cats, little funding, and limited space. Once the animals arrive at the shelter, they have very little time. It is our goal to help save these adoptable animals and find loving individuals/families who will provide committed, FORever homes. We are NOT professional trainers or animal behaviorists; simply volunteers who are trying to save these animals from euthanasia. Each animal in our program is in a foster home and receives all age-appropriate vetting while in our care.

Our Adoption Process...

We have many wonderful dogs looking for homes! Our dogs are mainly fostered in one of our many experienced foster homes. All of our animals receive rabies vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, bordatella, microchip, and spay/neuter, as well as being kept current on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. All of our dogs come with complete medical records. Their adoption fee of $450 covers their complete age appropriate vetting, as well as transportation to your area.

Our rescue doesn't have an actual facility in the New England area. Due to this it is not possible to meet them prior to their adoption. Our dogs are brought up to their new owners weekly! Our transport service is certified through the USDA. We have a 14 day no questions asked money back guarantee and the dog can be returned to us if things do not work out. We try hard to make good matches with our animals and their adopters so that everyone has a happy life together! Our foster homes love the animals in their homes and will fully disclose everything about them – some can even Skype or send videos for you to see them in action.

We can provide references from other rescues, previous New England adopters, and our veterinarians if requested.

Go to and click on "Adoption" and then "Applications" to apply for the animal you are interested in adopting.
