My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Contessa combines the best qualities of a loyal watchdog and an independent-minded cat. She is people-oriented and always tries to be near her favorite humans, following them from room to room and sitting at their feet patiently awaiting attention. If you adopt her, she will meow her greetings and converse with you when you come home.

This is what her foster mom says: “Contessa is such a love! She is very sweet and will only eat if we are in the room to keep her company. She's very cuddly and loves to be pet. She's gonna make someone really happy in her forever home. :) Also, she's a lap cat. “

This beautiful but tough lady likes to have her ears scratched (bliss!) and also her chin. She may take some time to trust a new person to touch her hindquarters and tail. We suspect she was an extremely bonded pet that was dumped when she got pregnant—she seemed broken-hearted and confused when she arrived at the shelter. It will take a little while for her to feel secure in her new home.

Contessa resembles a forest with her tabby longhair, mane around the neck, and toe tufts, face shape, big round eyes. After a careful introduction, she does well with the other cats in her foster home. She also gets along with the family dog. She’d be better with adults or older teens who are sensitive enough to handle her gently, at least at first.

FIV+
FIV is not contagious to humans or dogs. It’s even hard to transmit to another cat, requiring a deep bite. Indoor FIV+ cats have a normal life span. A helpful brochure is available on the Best Friends website: http://bestfriends.org/resources/fiv-cats-faqs
