My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Winnie, a sweet, affectionate love of a girl who is ready to be your best friend. Winnie and her son, Toby are a bonded pair. Their owner died suddenly and the family didn’t want this adorable twosome. Winnie has a delicate face and shiny black fur with lovely tan markings. She has a special hug for her humans; she crawls up your lap, puts bother her paws at the base of your neck, and rests the tip of her nose on your nose. Then she gently lays her cheek against yours and sighs. She will even fall asleep in this position. Winnie loves being outdoors, nose to the ground, hunting and treeing squirrels. She has a strong prey drive and will attempt to chase birds and other critters even when she’s leashed. She walks well on her leash at a leisurely pace. Winnie would likely enjoy a fenced yard where she could sniff and hunt to her hear’s content. Indoors she plays with stuffed and rope toys and will sometimes play catch. Winnie gets very excited and barks loudly when other dogs walk by. She could use some positive socialization training so that she knows how to approach other dogs. Winnie was not housebroken when she came into foster care, but in less than two weeks, she has pretty much stopped having accidents. Her new owners should continue keeping her on a schedule and apply positive reinforcement techniques; she is food motivated so this works well. Winnie takes her treats gently. She is also learning to use a ramp to get on and off her favorite couch to protect her rather long back. At night she sleeps with Toby under the blankets in their big bed. Winnie is up-to-date on all her vetting. If you are interested in welcoming this very loving dachshund duo into your home, please fill out our online adoption application. You may contact the foster home for more details about Winnie and Toby.
